fahye: (and nobody was watching (dr who))
I have discovered two new fandoms within the past week, and both of them are clamouring VERY loudly to have fic written about them. Noooooo.

1) [livejournal.com profile] ryokophoenix has introduced me to Ouran High School Host Club which is the most insane anime series EVER. I'd especially recommend it if you've seen quite a lot of shoujo already, so that you can catch all of the conventions that they're totally taking the piss out of, but it's hilarious in and of itself.

2) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lone_lilly and the fact that my Internet has FINALLY deigned to stop freezing when downloading large files, I have watched 1x01 and 1x02 of the new Doctor Who. LOVE. It's made me all the more keen to see the British Queer as Folk, which is also written by Russell T. Davies.

As an aside: almost a year ago I wrote a Firefly/Sandman crossover, right? [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary (entirely independently, as far as I can tell) has made icons! FF-mun Millifolken especially might want to check them out.
fahye: (STUDY HELL)
1) Listen to Eddie Izzard on one's iPod whilst out for a walk in the fucking miraculous August sunshine, and fail to restrain one's laughter when passing a family of small kiddies on tricycles. (Parents may think you are a bizarre be-sunglassed freak and proceed to look at you funny.)

2) Neglect one's knowledge of celebrity gossip, because then one is unaware of momentous news such as the fact that Dane Cook is possibly having a fling with Jessica Simpson. WTF. THE END OF THE WORLD COMETH.

3) Swan around vaguely all week and forget that one has a 15% cell physiology test on Monday, for which one needs to know 6 weeks worth of lecture and tutorial material.

If anyone needs me, I'll be over here with calcium transporters and electrochemical gradients dribbling out of my ears.
fahye: (les mots d'Amelie sont pleins de miel)
My favourite mug is a mug that my father bought me in Switzerland. He sometimes brings things back from his trips overseas, when orthopaedic societies fly him over and put him in nice hotels and he teaches spine-surgical techniques by demonstrating on pigs (apparently) and is then served pork for dinner (apparently) and there's always good wine because surgeons like good wine. Apparently. Anyway, the mug's glazed black near the base and then a speckly green and then blue at the top and on the inside, a very pretty blue. You can tell it's hand-thrown because of the shape and the texture on the tongue, rough enough to be real. What makes it my favourite mug is the little pottery man seated quite calmly inside. His head reaches about halfway up the mug itself, but he doesn't take up a whole lot of room. Maybe a teabag's worth. (His ears tend to get caught on teabags.) His hat and coat and boots are a workman's brown. It's kind of weird sipping coffee and suddenly having him appear through the surface, or sipping tea and having his pale caricature of a face constantly looking up at you, tinted sepia. But I'm always most disturbed by the initial tea-pouring itself. He's just sitting there, his hands clasped in his lap. His smile is always a perfect cheerful U. There's always an irrational spark of guilt when I drown him in boiling water.
fahye: (leave all this to yesterday)
I really don't have a scrap of indie cred in my body.

Have some songs that maybe aren't clever or alternative or edgy or what all the cool kids are listening to, but that I keep coming back to because they sound pretty. I am crazy in love with all of the following.

Tell me what you think! I won't laugh. I have nothing resembling a moral or elitist high ground, here.
