strictly melodic
I really don't have a scrap of indie cred in my body.
Have some songs that maybe aren't clever or alternative or edgy or what all the cool kids are listening to, but that I keep coming back to because they sound pretty. I am crazy in love with all of the following.
Tell me what you think! I won't laugh. I have nothing resembling a moral or elitist high ground, here.
Switchfoot - Politicians
I pledge allegiance to a country without borders, without politicians
Watching for my sky to get torn apart
We are broken, we are bitter
We're the problem, we're the politicians
Watching for our sky to get torn apart
I don't even have words. This song gets under my skin and...does stuff. It's young and idealistic and urgent.
Anna Nalick - Bleed
I'm takin' my heart and I'm settin' you free
And, baby, now you're just another song to me
And the edge of your sword isn't sharp enough for me to bleed
The fantastic thing about Anna Nalick's album is that every time I listen to it, I change my mind as to which song I like the best. Currently crushing on this one, which has taken me many listens to notice, but damn. I'm noticing now.
Something Corporate - Down
Let's get drunk
You can drive us to the harbor
Wish upon a star but
Do you know what stars are?
Balls of fire, burning up the black space
Falling from the landscape
Exploding in the face of God
I rediscovered this song yesterday, and immediately felt that my life had been wasted because there was a time when I wasn't listening to it on repeat.
Alanis Morissette - You Learn
I recommend biting off more then you can chew to anyone
I certainly do
I recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time
Feel free
Throw it down (the caution blocks you from the wind)
Hold it up (to the rays)
You wait and see when the smoke clears
Mmm, no real gushing commentary for this one, but I think it's my favourite track from Jagged Little Pill. Less of a clear-cut melody than the others posted here, but I really like the sound.
Rascal Flatts - What Hurts The Most
I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
This song has a gorgeous, gorgeous, ache to it. I found it attached to a BSG fanvid and fell in love. There's nothing special or original about the concept, but it really does hurt if you let it.
Tori Amos - Taxi Ride
Lily is dancing on the table
We've all been pushed too far
I guess on days like this
You know who your friends are
Just another dead fag to you that's all
Scarlet's Walk has a much more mellow-melodic sound that a lot of Tori's other albums, and this song in particular has a very precise and lovely kind of rhythm.
Poets of the Fall - Shallow
I'm quick to wait, and slow to hate
They call me gracious for my patience
And I feel proud under that shroud
And all the while it's all evasion
No, there isn't a single PotF song that wouldn't have fallen in the sounding-pretty category, but I am particularly fond of this one just at the moment.
Voxtrot - Wrecking Force
Come on to my side, you will define me with a knife
Spare me all the miseries, I tear apart your life
But you can lose yourself in art
And you can break somebody's heart in two
VOXTROT. MY NEWFOUND LOVE. This one is clever, and possibly even has indie cred. (I got it from Ji. Ji has enough indie cred for the both of us.)
Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman - Elephant Love Medley
Though nothing could keep us together
We could steal time
Just for one day
We could be heroes
for ever and ever
I have a not-so-sekrit obsession with Baz Luhrmann films, and I think I've been able to sing every word of this ever since...the day after I saw the film, when I bought the soundtrack. I LOVE IT. IT'S SO SILLY. AND HE STANDS ON A GIANT FAKE ELEPHANT AND SINGS INTO THE NIGHT. Remind me one day to make a long and embarrassing picspam of all three Luhrmann films and why they're the best things ever.
