The cheapest tickets to Tori Amos's two Sydney shows are $100.

I love my country for many things, but the staggeringly high price of tickets to imported musical concerts is not one of them :( No Tori for me.

BUT in more cheerful news, my mother & brother are in town because of the Australian Figure Skating Championships. I watched my brother's long program last night, and it was such a good skate! His steps and spins were all fantastic and he didn't get any deductions, and he missed his double axel but didn't double-foot the landing so his points were still okay, and he landed a fantastic double-toe double-loop combo, and the judges completely fluffed up the comparative presentation scores because of some inexplicable bias for another guy whose skate was pretty mediocre, grr hiss. Some of the boys in his division had gorgeous choreo and really interesting spins, though; I really love watching the Nationals because the ACT has such a tiny amount of male skaters.

And then this morning Mum & I went shopping in the city and she bought me a strapless Kenji Urban summer dress <333 It has CRANES on it. I will take a photo of it at some point.

Today is World AIDS Day. I encourage you all to spend ten minutes or so clicking around the WHO's website on HIV/AIDS; you're almost certain to learn something new. The 2007 estimate is that there are 33.2 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS, and this is one of the health topics about which I feel very strongly and with which I would really like to end up working one day.

Courtesy of an X-Files fanvid, of all the mad things (I have never seen an episode of that show), does anyone have Bright Eyes' song 'No One Would Riot For Less'? Anyone? [livejournal.com profile] villainny? :D

I spent most of today running around being a one-woman Party Planning Committee, buying wine and making sure that I've ordered glasses & balloons & cakes & catering. But I think my 21st is ALL ORGANISED now.

And now I get to spend the rest of the day at the ice rink, cheering on the two girls for whom I choreographed the Wicked routine (song = What Is This Feeling. there's hairpulling. it's awesome.), and discreetly reading A Passage to India in an effort to ignore all of the ghastly, over-cute routines set to terrible commercial Christmas music. JOY.

Ow ow ow ow fucking ow.

(This concludes our weekly Saturday morning post-skating moan session.)

For my own reference, a list of things to get done before the 21st party I'm going to tonight:

- clean bathrooms
- wrap present & write in card
- finish writing out neuroanatomy notes
- read articles on surgical treatment of congenital spinal disorders
- choreograph step sequence

But right now, I am going to coddle my pulled muscle and watch the new episodes of House and Avatar.

On the ice this morning for the first time in almost a year -- my body remembers how to DO everything, but the muscles aren't there. Tomorrow I am going to be in a great deal of pain, but right now I feel quite chirpy and endorphined.

Note to self, however: short hair + skating = not such a great combination. I need my ponytail-length hair back, or at least to wear a thick headband next time, so that I am not blinded by my fringe in the middle of a sit spin.

Finally finished my crazy Ouran cohabitation fic, which I wanted to get out of the way before Yuletide (!!) starts.

daddy's gonna buy you a looking glass - Ouran High School Host Club - 4946 words

It's exactly like and yet exactly unlike the old days: they are older, their edges are sharper, and they drag at one another's orbits with more and more force.

Michelle Trachtenberg is in a movie about figure skating.

<3

I skated for eight years. I'm not entirely pathetic. Well, okay, maybe I am. It's a frigging Disney movie, after all. She appears to play Dawn, only with skates. And in the preview she lands a triple toe loop simply by (apparently) calculating the aerodynamics on paper. Which is, um, kind of NOT POSSIBLE.

*is dork*

And I don't care how godawful the Constantine movie looks (and it kind of does) - it has Rachel Weisz in it. I'm there.

*is also shallow*
