In my experience, there's nothing like a) sharing your frustrations and b) showing off your tiny successes to get you motivated to finish a fic. So: this post is for everyone who is currently in the middle of a fic. (Or even many fics!) I know there are a lot of you out there.

Don't care which fandom, don't care how long or how silly or how unpolished it is, don't care if you've just started or are almost done: this is a post for you to tell me what you love about it so far, or the stupid block that you've hit, or why the premise is hopelessly on crack, or how your characters are misbehaving little twerps who just won't stop talking.

Post a snippet! Post the bit you're most proud of, or an illustration of your complaints, or the bit that makes you giggle whenever you scroll past it.

Here, I'll go first. )

Your turn! Share. It's good for the soul. And feel free to give each other tips on managing unruly characters or gathering the nerve to delete unnecessary scenes, or just leap on someone's snippet and exclaim I LOVE IT OMG WRITE MORE!!!!1 in the worst ff.net way, because in the right context (read: not ff.net) that can be enormously helpful :D

So...Fabian just died. Although by 'died' I mean 'I shut him down just as death was imminent', because there's some kind of virus on my C: drive that just keeps eating and eating and eating disc space even when I'm not saving anything or doing anything, and right at this moment my 50GB hard drive has about 20GB of visible files on it and another 30GB of invisible seemingly self-replicating SHIT that is threatening to crash my system because there's just. no. room.

I'm not starting him up again until I know what's wrong, because at the rate things are going, the disc will fill itself to the point of crashing within ten minutes. I can work from other computers in terms of downloading lecture notes, and I can get my dad's computer guy to have a look at it when I go home on Thursday, but fuck. Has anyone ever encountered a problem like this?

*sulks*

*works on fic, which was luckily emailed to self just in time*

You guys. I don't know what is wrong with me. I think I have an illness.

Solfege -- Naruto -- 7720 words

This is a war that none of them has ever been trained to fight and they are learning everything by ear and by touch. The only lesson that can still be applied is this: know your teammates.

Finally taking advantage of Naruto's enormous cast, this one has a shitload of awesome characters in it (including seven POV characters, because I am a masochist) and it's about teenage ninjas during the apocalypse, so you all definitely want to go and read it right now.

It's very very cold in this computer room, so I think I'm going to go up to my room and make tea and read sullenly under a blanket until it's time to leave for the movies. We're seeing The Black Balloon, which is an Australian film about which I know very little apart from a) it's meant to be quite a good portrayal of autism, and b) it has Toni Collette and Gemma Ward in it. I'm not so sure how I feel about that last, but Toni Collette can generally hold up a film, so we'll see.
