Now that my wireless connection has stopped inexplicably failing to load any site associated with Livejournal (seriously, what the hell) I am feeling much more pleased about my fortnight of mid-semester break. I spent the time sullenly mainlining the first season and a half of Spooks, and I now adore Keeley Hawes even more than I did before. I think I need to rewatch Macbeth, in order to better appreciate the parts where she and James McAvoy make out a lot and talk about killing people. And then The Knight's Tale, in order to better appreciate the parts where she and Chiwitel Ejiofor...make out a lot...

More people should watch The Canterbury Tales. Do you need a cast list? James Nesbitt, Billie Piper, Indira Varma, Bill Nighy, Jonny Lee Miller, John Simm, Samantha Bond, Julie Walters...it's like ALL OF BRITISH TELEVISION decided to get together and throw a Chaucer-themed party! There is NO BAD HERE!

Also, I refuse to believe that only two of you are able to name your three favourite songs. No biscuit.

oh yes!

Author names have been revealed for Multiverse 2007, so here's the fic that I wrote in a mad rush after rashly volunteering to pinch-hit. I don't know why I find McKay so much harder to write than Sheppard, but it was like pulling bloody teeth.

The Holes in the Ground - Doctor Who/Stargate: Atlantis - Rodney McKay & the Doctor, 5156 words

"Right," and thank God, he actually shuts up and just balances the circuitboard on one knee and points his stupid sonic screwdriver at it and presses a button. Blue light buzzes out from the tip and three seconds later there's a shuddering roar from the generators and the shield soars upwards. It's the most ridiculously unscientific thing Rodney has ever seen. He kind of wants to cry.

Sooo, continuing my fit of renewed enthusiasm for all of my beloved British shows, I've been rewatching Shakespeare Retold (I really need to buy the DVDs at some stage!) and making silly noises at the screen. Have some illustrative clips!

Much Ado About Nothing - Damien Lewis (<3!) and Sarah Parish (<3!!!!) as the bickering co-anchors of a local news station.

The Taming of the Shrew - Shirley Henderson and Rufus Sewell as a violently antisocial politician and the unbalanced aristocrat who decides to marry her.

And also, because the sight of Rufus Sewell in fishnets and makeup really isn't something anyone should be deprived of... )
