blissss

My family has a Saturday lunch tradition of delicious deli things: crusty Italian bread, pâté , proscuitto, semi-sundried tomatoes, olives, hard and soft cheeses. Saturday lunch, when home in Canberra, is the highlight of my week.

I've been feeling simultaneously homesick for both Canberra & Sydney -- it has been an unprecedentedly long time since I had real Thai food and the cravings are STRONG -- so during my grocery-buying trip today I splurged on Maggie Beer Pheasant Farm Pâté (on sale!) and King Island Dairy double brie (sadly not on sale). And then I stuffed a sandwich with them.

TASTE OF HOME. IN MY MOUTH <3

What tastes like home to you?

Oh YUM. That totally tastes of home to me, as well, only it was my best friend's house gorwing up since I pratically lived there and they were verra Italian. My mother wasn't a big one for cooking anything other than the 5 things she could do well. But when I want to feel all warm and cuddly and home I always make the sauce/pasta dishes I learned at my best friend's mother's elbow.

My mom's backing, especially her blueberry muffins and her chocolate chip cookies, because she makes those from scratch and she made them all the time when I was little. They are really, truly, incredibly good, and nobody I have ever met has ever made one that tasted even similar.

And usually, around Christmas - just then - she makes mint squares. If I ever meet an insane supervillain who is attempting to destroy the world, I will feed him one of my mom's mint squares. And he will decide the world is worth preserving, because it has this incredible delicious taste in it. That's more of a taste of Christmas at home, though.

Oooh, good question. Many things taste of home - my version of red thai curry, gluten steaks double-crumbed and served with gravy, my cheese scones with pinches of cayenne and mustard in the cooking of them.

Mango that has become slightly warm from sitting in the sun, eating with dripping fingers.
