clothing post for the first time in ages

Today I accomplished absolutely nothing in the realm of study, BUT, I had fun! It was bizarre! It was like a real weekend or something! [livejournal.com profile] ryokophoenix and I shopped for many things, and I spent waaaaay too much money on green eyeshadow and clothes from Review (<333).

I bought the same top in two different colours because it is a magical top, I swear to God, it is a top with superpowers.

See?? MAGIC. Reduced from $89 to $15, of course I had to buy two. The other one is purple.

And this jacket, reduced from $250 to $75. I do not think it was ever worth $250, to be frank -- Review is a lovely brand but FIENDISHLY EXPENSIVE -- but it is pretty smashing for $75. My mission to own mostly clothes that can best be described as 'smart' continues! Also, check out how much volume this haircut gives me, whoa. I have a better picture of how fair-and-vaguely-curly it is at the moment:

My hair straightener has been tossed aside with a cackle of gay abandon! I have WAVES! It's awesome.

Anyway.

What were we talking about. RIGHT.

After the shopping we saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World which I enjoyed the hell out of. I mean, I had a couple of big problems with it which I will discuss with you if you so desire, but they did not interfere too much with the overall enjoyment.

And now I'm alternating between staring at my WIP and watching Dara O'Briain clips on YouTube.

Good day :)

magic top is magical. *nods* the clothes and hair look great! :)

That jacket is SWEET. It reminds me of something Janelle Monae would wear.

Scott Pilgrim! So many problems, and yet. Mostly I just love it because it's a movie about my city.

Yeah, I was thinking about your review the whole way through and wishing I had a Toronto Person to explain all the references to me as they arose :D

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed Scott Pilgrim, too, but I would love to hear what problems you had with it.

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the major ones were:

- I didn't really care about Scott Pilgrim as a character. At all. I found him annoying, a bit of a douche, and without any attractive qualities. I liked Ramona a BIT more but again couldn't see anything really awesome about her. I think her flaws were presented in a more interesting way and she owned them a lot more, though.

- The straight guy ended up defeating the queer girl with...an orgasm? Really?

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I think maybe that was the point of Scott--to be a "normal," not very interesting guy.

Yeah, that was kind of awkward. Maybe it was supposed to get around having Scott have to hit a girl, but it was still...weird.

What did you think of the ending?
ext_21673: ([other] mining & translating the light)

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, but I like my protagonists to be people I can feel at least SOME kind of emotion about that isn't vague irritation. All of the supporting characters were so great and so interesting in comparison.

I would much rather he have hit her than used sex, that made me very uncomfortable. It's all very well for SCOTT to be all 'hur hur lesbian jokes', but that the rules of the canon universe allowed STRAIGHT MALE to defeat LESBIAN GIRL (or maybe bi, I don't think they ever specified past the 'bi-furious' joke) via a sexual act was extremely distateful to me.

I liked the ending! Knives got an apology (I would have liked the film a LOT LESS if that hadn't happened) and I didn't really care if Ramona and Scott ended up together or not, so...whatever, on that score?

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, and it's even weirder and more disturbing when you think about the film as essentially real life dramatized with video game tropes. If battling the exes represents dealing with your partner's past, or some such, then defeating her ex-girlfriend by making her orgasm is just...baffling and creepy beyond all reason. Especially since Ramona suggested it.

Yeah, I was waiting all movie for him to apologize to Knives! But I felt bad for Knives. She sent Scott off to be with Ramona because he'd been fighting for her, but she'd been fighting just as hard for him.

I like to think that Knives is going to have many awesome relationships with people that appreciate her, and she will always tell the story of Scott Pilgrim as 'my first boyfriend was an ass who dated me because I was convenient and then cheated on me, and from this I learned NOT TO TAKE SHIT FROM MEN, because I am TOO COOL FOR THAT'.

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I like that idea.

[identity profile] lizardspots.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE that jacket! And also your magical boob-delineating top.

I tried it on in the hope I could wear it to hospital! And then was like, uh, no. No.

[identity profile] inknose.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
If that top doesn't have superpowers then I DON'T KNOW WHAT DOES.

Scott Pilgrim was really fun :D it was the sort of movie that was just so enjoyable to watch that any problems sort of breezed by me, in a way.

[identity profile] mercuriazs.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That IS magical. :DDD It's so lovely on you.

And now you're reminding me I need to do a Stuff Wot I Made post!

[identity profile] polaris-starz.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
How are you so pretty? And you have fantastic taste in clothes. :D

:))) Me too! Largely because it requires not much more effort than running my fingers through it continually as it dries.

Your hair is so pretty!

And that shade of red (in the shirt) is beautiful.

I *heart* the new jacket.

(Also completely agree re: Review pricing -- they have some lovely stuff but completely overpriced considering the quality. Definitely on my "only buy if on sale" list.)

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World which I enjoyed the hell out of. I mean, I had a couple of big problems with it which I will discuss with you if you so desire, but they did not interfere too much with the overall enjoyment.

Scott Pilgrim was one of those movies where all the problems I had re: characterisation could be ignored in favour of Ridiculous Fun. In any case the comics, perhaps obviously, are better as far as character and relationship development go.

Oh my. That top. Um. Spectacular. Yes, spectacular is the word we need here. Although the camera angle is probably helping, too.

Review is such a strange brand. I find the sizing rather odd, and the mixture of clothing pieces which I've seen/owned from them is rather mismatched. The skirt I bought for K (second-hand, six dollars) was Review. Plain grey serge skirt to mid-calf, with *pockets*. Just this side of frumpy, really. And yet they do tops like this one of yours. STRANGE.

[identity profile] kcdl.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You look totally gorgeous. I love that hair.

[identity profile] littledust.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE YOUR HAIRCUT. Also your clothes, but HAIR. *_*

Re: Scott Pilgrim, the comics are better. They're not perfect, but the movie gave Roxie another character's weak point, f'r instance.

You look FABULOUS. Love the top, jacket, and hair all three!
