'Tis the season, right?

No matter what sins or weird musicals Andrew Lloyd Webber has committed or will ever commit, I will always love him for this one. And this particular staging/movie is just brutally, jaw-droppingly well done. The music by itself is fantastic - add staging and choreography and acting and concept like this, and it becomes something phenomenal.





(What is actually quite amusing is how I went back and looked at the picspam that liminalliz did after seeing this, and we capped heaps of the same scenes. But THESE ARE THE GOOD ONES. And the not-really-important-but-HEY-LOOK-TONY-VINCENT! ones.)









For some reason I really enjoy the anachronism of Simon Zealotes having this tattoo.

I do dearly love the movie!Judas; but OH HOW I WANT TO SEE TONY AS JUDAS. THE VOICE THE VOIIIIIICE. And I love how you can tell in the film that Tony and whatshisbucket who plays Jesus HAVE played Jesus/Judas on stage previously and are having OKAY THIS IS INTERESTING acting-fun on screen. YAY.

By which standard, a few of them don't work for me as hardcore as they seem to for you, but on the whole, well, I am easily seduced by anything with copious amounts of strong blue lights. (Fun fact!)

But now I want to see Jacques-Louis David's staging of JCS >( and that can NEVER BE.

Yes, like composition in a painting! It is harder to convey theatre blocking with caps, though - especially in musicals, because everyone is moving all the time. The first Last Supper shot doesn't look like much, but that scene started with Judas sitting along drinking from a bottle, and then people started coming together with bottles and candles and moving around hugging and it was just amazing.

This production had very sharp, symmetrical blocking that was based around clear imagery and silhouettes. Such things appeal to me, you know this :D

I was actually thinking about how much you & the other theatre-people on my flist would love it. The great thing about being in movie form, even though it was filmed on a stage, is the fact that you can see the actors' faces, and holy shit, can these people act. It's phenomenal.

Ahaha. I was delayed in expressing my capslocky joy over this post by the fact that I had to leave for a Good Friday service. But I have now renewed my rock-solid conviction that nobody does drama like religion. Also I discovered that I've been ruined on religious symbolism for life. This is possibly your fault. XD

ANYWAY. YAY JCS. I have to be careful because if allowed I will rant for hours about this show and its history and all the ways it can be staged and the actors etc etc etc, and then take a breath and do it some more. But! I see you are a Tony Vincent fan. *looks around stealthily* I have a program full of pictures of him playing Judas somewhere - I will find it and play with the scanner. I... probably have a recording, though that might take longer.

HAHAHA YES. Perfect - I love that scene. My favorite part ever is the ending of the last supper scene, though. Blocking yes, omg.

I agree that the paint on the hands is sheer GENIUS.

Okay, I need to watch this again because they are all getting scrambled in my head. D: Glenn Carter is awesome as Jesus, but perhaps even more awesome as Simon. Glenn!Simon was Judas's Best Pal, and then when he realized what had happened at the arrest scene he was SO BETRAYED. It was awful. You could see him carrying that around for the rest of the play.

Have you ever heard the version where the Indigo Girls play Jesus and Mary? It's kinda cool.

I am happy to accept blame :D And I am now SO KEEN to RP with Ji. Judas on Easter Sunday. It's gonna be great.

HE IS SO PRETTY AND SPIKY. I think he would make a great Enjolras, actually. Full of fire and naive idealism.

I have only ever seen this version, the 1973 movie version & a school stage production. But the soundtrack CD that I have is an impossible-to-track-down British version that my mother (a purist) spend half a year harassing a store to track down and order in for her. It's faaaaantastic.

Which is the British JCS that you've heard? The Australian one is presumably more easily accessible and it's awesome, so if she chose this mystery recording over that one then it must really be something. *sits on hands*

It was going to be Friday but things conspired. As they do.

I...can't actually remember the background >_< I have lost track completely of that 'verse, and haven't been able to RP ANYTHING for months. Send me an email with what you think we should do and I'll see if I can set something up. I will be around for RPing...hopefully tomorrow.

It's a 1970 version with Murray Head as Judas and Ian Gillan as Jesus. I don't think it was ever actually STAGED - it's just a recording. But it's amazing. Piracy could possibly take place.

...Ooh. Oooooooh. I have never seen this version, because I have a deep and undying love for this version (http://imdb.com/title/tt0070239/), which contains my Favorite Jesus and Judas Ever, and was afraid I'd hate the newer one for being different.

I may have to rethink that assessment.
