from the dusty red soil plains
- Sadly, the dust failed to be followed by either a plague of locusts or a zombie attack (although at choir we discussed this possibility in great detail and formulated some ideal/nonideal plans of action should such a thing ever occur) and in fact the glorious sky-colour blew over by the afternoon, leaving a lot of dirty cars and an unpleasant dryness in my throat.
- CHOIR. UGH. Despite last week being jam-packed with rehearsals and concerts and parties and subsequent hangovers, this week is just as bad! Rehearsal was 6:30-9:30 tonight, and for the next three nights I have to be at the Great Hall from 5:30-10pm. MED SCHOOL? STUDY? HAHAHA.
- Meeting with Honours supervisor went well! I think he realised I needed a little more handholding and a more concrete line of scientific enquiry. I should be set to write my proposal for the faculty now. You know. In all that free time I have.
- I have started watching Big Bang Theory <3 Episodes are just the right length for a brain-break, and a lot of fun. (I had to put Project Runway on hold for a few days because, er, I couldn't sleep due to Christian Siriano's voice carrying on commentary IN MY HEAD. Bad sign. Bad sign.)
- Speaking of zombies, I've been shuffling through my life feeling not quite all there (and only revived by brief windows of neurology study, ie. BRAAAAAIIIINS) and basically worn out. But! When this week is over I get a two-week holiday in Canberra \o/ And
stars_like_dust is going to be visiting me here in Sydney tomorrow, which is very exciting.

[fs] straight on 'til morning
by call_me_daisy -- OT fucking P
So let's talk about how John Crichton and Aeryn Sun have INVADED MY SOUL, huh? One of the best things about this pairing is their constant, wonderful, subblime physical chemistry, the ways they sway into and out of each other's spaces, and this icon shows that perfectly. The keywords are of course a Peter Pan reference (second star to the right!) because Crichton's journey is half striving for home and half wanting to surrender to Neverland and all its wonders.

[bones] a single life shared
by mora_torium - (do you love me?)
Oh my god, that season finale, in all its insane and self-indulgent AU glory. This is Seeley Booth and Temperance Brennan, at work and at rest and in love. The keywords and comment are from the narration and the dialogue, respectively, in that episode. I had to have an icon of them because I ship them with VIOLENCE. Next season starts soon! \o/

[stxi] all the things we gain
by whenisadoor -- lose a planet and see where you end up
I think this icon is near-perfect; the closeup on the lips is mmmdelicious and the text is simple but makes a good contrast. BONES. I have no qualms with having two separate characters called Bones in my fandomly life; this one is newer, but just as hardcore awesome. The keywords are to do with the idea of running away from something/losing something ('she got the whole damn planet in the divorce') and finding yourself somewhere amazing and worthwhile. It's not really a Kirk/McCoy icon but I guess it easily could be.

[sw] strike a match in space
by rrreverb -- the origin of title-as-insult in my particular mental bastardry
Han/Leia! I've loved them foreeeeever. I like the freezeframe nature of this one, a single moment in the middle of an argument. And yes, I think I can blame Han's habit of calling her 'Princess' as an insult for the fact that Lucifer developed the same habit. If he doesn't like you, or wants to mock you, he addresses you by the most elaborate title possible.

[other] this child I would destroy
by iconzicons -- this is actually an amazing song for labyrinth. or a very mythologically precise film.
This is such a wonderful shot of Sarah from Labyrinth, with keywords from My Medea by Vienna Teng, which (as you would expect) is perfect! Inside the labyrinth walls / there lies a tiny child who sleeps alone.

[sga] you will whisper jubilate
by spiffed_icon -- holding onto democracy with both hands
I do not miss SGA at all, but I do miss Elizabeth Weir. Keywords & comment from my fic no more to leave it, which expresses a lot of my Feelings on this matter. The quote from the fic is actually 'holding onto diplomacy with both hands' but I like the alteration for this icon because Weir's role is such an interesting one when it comes to the power structure of Atlantis, the necessity of a civilian leader, the ways in which she obeys and subverts and rises above the military environment that suffuses it.

[other] kafka on the shore
by jillicons -- displaced in dreams
This is a very pretty icon in and of itself, but I uploaded it because it reminded me of the book Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, which I finished recently. One of the main characters is a tragic figure, a woman who wrote a famous ballady pop song when she was very young, and then lost the love of her life in a senseless accident and never recovered from this loss. One of the most repeated images in the book is of a beach; thus the icon. The comment is 'displaced in dreams' because half of this character's interactions with the protagonist of the book are as a middle-aged woman, in real life (er, to the extent that anything in a Murakami book is 'real life') but the other half is as the young girl that she once was, through the medium of his dreams. Communication & action & identity as they relate to the dreaming state are very important in this book. I recommend it; it's weird as all getout, but very engaging. One of the characters is a transsexual haemophiliac librarian! WHAT IS NOT TO LIKE.

[buffy] the line that divides
by angelaficionado -- (check my vital signs)
Lyrics in both keywords & comments are from 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' because of
shati's mashup fanvid, which springs into my head whenever I think of Buffy because the whole song is so perfect for that show and for Buffy in particular. I also like using 'check my vital signs' here because of the pink shirt = Buffybot, and the scene in which Buffy pretends to be an automated version of herself. Which is a delicious mouthful of irony considering her struggles to maintain a facade of nomality in S6.

[aa] going out of business
by schiarire -- perhaps this can be my economic-commentary icon instead
This is Harper from the wonderful, wonderful miniseries of Tony Kushner's Angels in America. I love this scene; it's a quiet, poignant moment in which a woman defies the weather, and the city, and her old life.
HARPER: The end of the world is at hand. Hello, paleface.
Nothing like storm clouds over Manhattan to get you in the mood for Judgment Day.
JOE: It's freezing, it's starting to rain, where are your shoes?
HARPER: I threw them in the river.
The Judgment Day. Everyone will think they're crazy now, not just me, everyone will see things. Sick men will see angels, women who have houses will sell their houses, dimestore dummies will rear up on their wood-putty legs and roam the land, looking for brides.
JOE: Let's go home.
HARPER: Where's that? (Pointing towards Manhattan.) Want to buy an island? It's going out of business. You can have it for the usual cheap trickets. Fire sale. The prices are insane.
JOE: Harper.
HARPER: Joe. Did you miss me?
JOE: I… I've come back.
HARPER: Oh I know.
Here's why I wanted to stay in Brooklyn. The Promenade view.
Water won't ever accomplish the end. No matter how much you cry. Flood's not the answer, people just float.
Let's go home.
Fire's the answer. The Great and Terrible Day. At last.

[mer] spellbound and unchildproofed
by ikameshii -- (I am a princess on the way to my throne)
This is a very Morgana kind of icon; I like that she's gazing off into the distance with a wistful expression. And the keywords/comment are from my Merlin song to end all Merlin songs, Wunderkind by Alanis Morissette. I think these words in particular are perfect for Morgana, with the irony of her narrative destiny and the fact that she's trapped by her position, her power, and her love for the people around her.

[dw] and you might grow
by gemstar69 -- ignore the fact that I am sort of quoting gwen stefani, please
The colours on this icon are amazing! It's that quintessential Doctor Who moment of stepping out of the TARDIS into a new time and place, a new adventure. The Gwen Stefani lyric is of course take a chance / and you might grow, which encapsulates the character journeys of the Doctor's companions.

[scrubs] sting sting sting
by zenstate -- + coffee - endocrinology = sure, why not.
Keywords are a very silly play on the fact that Elliot is the biggest WASP to ever WASP. I love her character journey in Scrubs a lot, even though she's an endocrinologist and that is a specialty I would never ever go into. I do identify strongly with her reliance on coffee, though.

[other] this is the day
by jillicons -- [no matter that it looks like all the rest]
One of my few non-fandom icons! I am a terrible, terrible procrastinator, and I like having an icon that is all about doing things in the present and carpeing your diem and all that. And I like that this has the look of a home interior; I could see myself installing words above my bookcase!
- CHOIR. UGH. Despite last week being jam-packed with rehearsals and concerts and parties and subsequent hangovers, this week is just as bad! Rehearsal was 6:30-9:30 tonight, and for the next three nights I have to be at the Great Hall from 5:30-10pm. MED SCHOOL? STUDY? HAHAHA.

And I'd agree; there's something insidious about Christian Siriano's voice -- it can invade your subconscious.
