welcome home

Because the perfect way for the universe to say HOLIDAY'S OVER is for my iMac to die. MACS ARE WONDERFUL, they said. MACS NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS.

Uh huh.

Thankfully, I can get by academically by using my laptop, but it does mean I can't access any of my previous notes or documents, and I can't use the internet in my room. Because the campus wireless doesn't extend to the Maples building.

As you may imagine, I am in a rather shitty mood right now.

... you don't have one of the blue lan cables? RUN DON'T WALK to reception and *buy* one tomorrow!

...hahaha OH I AM A GENIUS. I'm so used to only using wireless on my laptop that the idea of unwiring my Mac and hooking the EeePC up instead simply didn't occur to me.

I am just SO PISSED OFF that I bought a brand-new Mac and it's already decided to chuck a hissy fit requiring me to lug it to be repaired. Lug! In my arms! In its enormous box! Won't that be fun.

PISSED OFF is fair enough!

*elects not to get a mac* At least a PC you can open up and take the bits out.

I like my Mac! In general! And most other Mac owners I know are ecstatically happy with their computers. I guess Macs don't like ME.

Some consolation: the handful of fics I am currently actively working on are on my laptop, safe. I suppose EPIC DATA WIPING is one way to solve the epic-backlog-of-WIPs problem? Please don't be wiped, data. Pleeeeease.

haven't you had trouble with your mac since day one? i would have returned it, macs aren't supposed to cause shenanigans. at least it would still be under warranty, and they will probably just give you a new one. upside?

Yeah. I surfed forums endlessly and changed some things that seemed to improve the kernel panic situation, so I thought I'd fixed it, but this evening it worked for all of ten minutes before crashing and refusing to reboot without REcrashing.

It is still under warranty, yeah. But if the hard drive is screwed then I am going to lose a lot of data due to not being able to afford a new external drive for backup! NOT HAPPY.

kernel pacnic inducers may not be dead hard drive related at all. it's often software related. don't worry yet!

This has become contagious. Mine croaked this morning. I am very, very vexed as my last revision was in the process of being backed-up when things went poof, and I will be re-typing about sixty footnotes.

Want to throw darts at pictures of Steve Jobs? Not really, but it sounds nice.

Not happy, not remotely happy.

Sends good thoughts to you, however.
