the way dreams have of sticking to the soul

I have a bag of salted pistachios, some peach Zappos, a pile of teabags and an iPod full of musicals to tap my feet to. AND I UNDERSTAND THE BASAL GANGLIA. I'm tempted to scan in a page of my study-notes so you can all see just how close I am to achieving the traditional illegibility of the medical professional.

Now to memorise pages of neuropharmacology. Bromocriptine amantadine levodopa/carbidopa selegiline benztropine blah blah sodding blah, and those are just the ones for Parkinson's. Someone needs to characterise the personality of the average medical student; I think it'd be a fascinating mixture of obsessive personality trait, Type A, and just a touch of masochism.

Somewhat to my own surprise, however, I am becoming progressively more certain that I'm on the right career path.

<3! That's good to hear.

I am progressively certain that I am NOT. Which is, to be fair, what I was hoping to prove by taking this job. Ten points to me.

So what do you think you'll be doing after your...is it two years, the grad program?

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
One year, and I'll stay on for another. And then it is BACK TO MEDIEVALISM FOR MEEEE

Still thinking England?

Masters in Sydney first. Need to get back in the swing of things :)

Hahaha you will be returning to Sydney just as I leave it for Orange!

I'll be returning just as EVERYONE leaves.

I am destined to never have a fixed social network

But you can come and visit me in Orange! Wineries & things!

And I will be returning to Sydney in October of 2011 to start my pre-internship, and then (fingers crossed) sticking around indefinitely.

Somehow my weekend of reading and gaming seems even less productive now than it already did.

At the same time, I don't really think I have the disposition for memorizing the neuropercolation levels of adamantium bromide. At least, not for more than 5 minutes.

Ah, but you already HAVE a career :D I'm being put through my paces to see if I can earn mine. And every time you post about your kayaking adventures I get insanely jealous.

Well, I can't dispute I have established my working life, but at the same time, when you're done, you will at least have the benefit of a career that can neither be done by an autistic rhesus monkey, nor will you be viewed as one by management.

Though I will admit, deep down, there is a certain small hint of intolerable smugness behind some of my more adventurous posts.

Nice feeling, isn't it.

It is :) How're your own piles of academic blah, my dear?

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Slow. Motivation decided not to return despite winning an extension til Monday and work allowing me to take Monday off. It has a lot to do with the fact that while I find the policy and concepts of media manipulation and defamation interesting, the issue becomes very boring when you break it down into legal elements.

On the upside, all those random rants I do on my LJ about copyright and fan-works etc.? I now get to publish one, w00t.

(Trying to lure motivation back with the thought that after Monday I am literally done with academia for the rest of my life).

That's one of the first songs I ever memorized! We sang it in elementary school all the time.

Now I'm trying to remember what mine were. We had a singing session once a week in about Year 2, and my favourites were... Cat's in the Cradle, and The Wild Colonial Boy.

But to be honest, the first songs I ever memorised were probably from Les Mis or by the Seekers.

I'm pretty good at remembering this kind of stuff! We also learned songs like "Candle on the Water," "Fifty Nifty United States" and then one about what it Means to be a Challenger student. Also quite old stuff like "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree With Anyone Else But Me."

LOL! I still don't understand (or, in fact, know) what the Basal Ganglia is so you're definitely two steps ahead of me there. :D

But wow, never pegged you as being in a choir. Oh the surprises, they keep coming!
