hey self

Thing you probably should have thought about in advance #38472:

How much tonight's Auslan class* would screw up your already-screwed-up wrist!

OW OW OW OW MOTHERFUCK OW.

*Take one part cultural education, one part language class and one part CRAZY CHARADES, add together and mix with vigorous gestures. Ow.

I think you may have the world's first charades injury. That is talent....not a talent I'd want, but talent all the same :)

We were doing 'sports', and most of the vocabulary is about as violent as you'd imagine :D I'd rather just finger-spell everything.

...Oh dear. That'd do it, yes.

I only know Ameslan -- well, for a "took it for a few years and have forgotten lots of it" value of "know" -- plus a vague idea of what British fingerspelling looks like (very different.) I have no idea about Auslan, it occurs to me. Now I'm curious!

From what I've heard, Auslan is a lot closer to BSL than it is to ASL -- we use two hands for fingerspelling and one hand for numbers. If I had a webcam I could make a 'voicepost' or something. You know, if my vocab stretched beyond 'hello! I have six dogs and I like the colour purple. may I have a sandwich?'

Heeee. But that's a useful sentence! Well, the last one is, anyway.

And if I did a 'voicepost' -- and, y'know, had the equipment to do so -- it would be "Hello! I used to study sign language a long time ago, but now I've forgotten lots." And then random nouns. (Train! Eggs! Bacon! Horse! Today, it's children's picture book hour with Gen.)

It does sound more like BSL, then. Which does stand to reason. Definitely the fingerspelling, at least; ASL uses one hand for both fingerspelling and numbers.
