seven otps
I LOVE THIS MEME. More people should do it.
7) Suzumiya Haruhi/Kyon

Because she bosses him around and controls his life but she knows that if he ever really put his foot down, she wouldn't be able to stand against him. Because he's bitchy and she's jealous and she thinks he's infuriating and he thinks her ponytail is so cute it's criminal. Because the universe bends itself around her desires and when her reality remakes itself with the sunrise the only constant is not an alien, nor a time-traveller, nor a psychic, but a completely normal boy who kisses her and, by doing so, stops her from ending the world. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS PAIRING. I DON'T THINK YOU DO.
6) Brian Kinney/Justin Taylor

Because Justin loved him from the very first moment and never questioned it despite everything that came after; because Brian went through every possible stage of affection (possession, protection, amusement, guilt, pride, respect) before falling in love, and then never had to question it because all the questions had been asked already. The fantastic thing about this pairing was the way that it built up to the happy ending and then DELIBERATELY OVERSHOT IT and then backed way off and left you with integrity & independence & the sure knowledge of love. Which is awesome.
5) Sakura/Naruto/Sasuke
(look, finding Shippuuden screencaps with these three is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE so, uh, you can have the most kickass piece of fanart in existence instead)

Because, pretty much, the process of writing this fic created in me an unshakeable belief in the plausibility and emotional PERFECTION of this OT3. Because none of them deserve anything less than their strongest desires: to protect and support and fight by the side of the people they love. Because there's too much history for it not to spill over into the future. Because sometimes your team is all the family you need.
4) Mai/Zuko

Because neither of them are nice, or charming, or easy to get along with, but they're completely in love with each other. Because they hate the beach. Because she calls him out on his bad temper and he can get her to abandon sarcasm. Because he dumped her in an effort to protect her and she still betrayed her family, her friends and her country in order to save him. I dunno, I think that's pretty fucking EPIC. Also: they are going to rule the world and have the most cynical babies to ever exist.
3) Tony Hill/Carol Jordan

Because the fact that both of them need the other more than they need anything else in their lives is never presented as a good thing, but presented as something uncomfortable and true. Because they know their own weaknesses and those of the other and they live their lives balanced on their complete, implicit, mutual trust. Because they can lose themselves in their work and their flaws and come out the other end even more damaged than before, but no less close. This is probably the oldest OTP on this list; I will never be able to shake these two out of my heart.
2) Kara Thrace/Lee Adama

...to tell you the truth I have almost run out of original words when it comes to this pairing. But they were the OTP that I fell for the hardest and for the longest time because their backstory is painful and complex and it trips them up at every turn, but they need it, because when the history of your race has been destroyed you hold onto whatever you damn well can. Because he believes in her when no one else will, and she thinks she doesn't deserve him. Because their feelings for each other make them unwise. Because they're tangled and vivid and best friends and neither of them can help but try to break out of the paths that have been set for them, and every time they look at each other it's somewhere between destiny and a fistfight.
1) Temperance Brennan/Seeley Booth

BECAUSE THEY ARE RIDICULOUSLY. IN. LOVE.
Okay: because they have learned and are learning to explore their differences and share their secrets. Because they know to lean on each other through bad times and to celebrate the good ones together. Because he wants her to eat pie and she wants him to be more logical. Because they'll save each other over and over again and still end up eating Chinese and laughing. BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN OOZING SEXUAL CHEMISTRY SINCE DAY ONE AND IT'S REACHING CRISIS POINT.
