[other] casanova - let's invent punk
by yumeiro - HI NINA SOSANYA!
This is David Tennant as the manic, joyful, I-have-ridiculous-hair version of Giacamo Casanova, from the BBC's miniseries. This was RTD's first time of working with Tennant (I think?), and he obviously took a liking to him. Anyway, this is one of the most irreverent and colourful scenes in a completely irreverent and colourful miniseries: Casanova falls in love with a castrato because he's convinced that 'he' is a woman in disguise, finds out that Bellino is a guy, agonises about it for a while, then goes off to confess his love anyway (oh, RTD) and Bellino, in turn, confesses that she actually IS a woman in disguise, but was only going to tell him so if she was convinced he loved her for herself, not because of her gender. Awww. AND THEN THEY GET MARRIED (almost) and this icon is from a scene where Bellino has just run away from the engagement party because she feels awkward in the heavy formal clothes. And then she and Casanova have this really hot session where they rip each others' clothes to pieces and then reappear in the ballroom in funky torn shreds. And everyone at court goes :O!! and then :D!! and rips their clothes and it's hilarious. The comment is a shoutout to Nina Sosanya, who plays Bellino, and who is in EVERYTHING I LIKE. Doctor Who. Shakespeare Retold. Love Actually. She's great.
[other] are you watching closely?
by zibina77 - this film freaked me the fuck out, I'll have you know.
IT DID. The first time I watched The Prestige I was terrified. It's an amazing, amazing film and I love it, but I was still terrified.
[potc] safekeeping (never say we die)
by carrielh - his heart belongs to the pirate king. LONG MAY SHE REIGN.
One of the icons uploaded in my fit of extreme enthusiasm for EPIC PIRATICAL LOVE STORIES OF TRAGIC DESTINY, post-AWE, which I loved ten times more than I expected to. Most of my feelings about Will/Elizabeth got expressed in this fic, but this icon does a pretty good job of capturing the HONEYMOON BEACH with rehotted-by-death!! Orlando Bloom and Keira with her sandy legs and the heeeeeeart in a jaaaaar which is ridiculous and sublime all at once.
As ever, time is as fickle as the sea herself: sometimes she races as fast as the currents and the gales, and sometimes she becalms you in endless tortuous days of longing, waiting, wishing. Somewhere there are a thousand shores and ports where time is captured in clocks and passes in regular beats for the people of the dry ground. Somewhere your own heart is keeping perfect time for the woman you love, though you wonder if it speeds up when you let yourself think of her. If it ever misses a beat.
[other] ENG - it's a moral dilemma
by wecrash - no, no. he's got a point...
Ahaha. Yes. This is from The Emperor's New Groove, which is tied with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as THE funniest film I have ever seen in my life. This is the well-meaning but rather dumb Kronk, watching as his shoulder-devil attempts to win an argument by doing one-handed vertical pushups. I. No. It makes NO SENSE and it's SO FUNNY and this is an icon for things that are either hilarious or nonsensical or both.
[spn] the fighting faithful
by dev_earl - this show combined winchesters and A CATHEDRAL.
If you didn't know this already, I have a real Thing about cathedrals, having been dragged around certain parts of Europe at an impressionable age. So when SPN had an episode about hell and heaven and faith and churches and it involved the Winchesters standing under a church window with light streaming through...well, let's just say I had a strong reaction. Also, I think the murky composition of this shot/icon is just beautiful.
[tw] draw a hard line
by renestarko - yes, I am using ridiculous country music lyrics for keywords.
The ridiculous county music in question being 'Whiskey For My Men, Beer For My Horses' by Toby Keith & Willie Nelson (I know, but in my defence, there is a very funny QaF fanvid to this):
And justice is the one thing
You should always find
You gotta saddle up your boys
You gotta draw a hard line
I just really liked that completely contrived scene in 'Countrycide' when they were all stalking across the wild moors or whatever. And I needed at least one icon with Owen in it! This is an icon for teamwork and also for trying hard even though you're a bit pathetic really.
[vm] so fucking special
by crazylittleme - sadly, I cannot get over my enormous love of logan echolls. sigh.
No, I can't. (We are talking S1 Logan Echolls here, with occasional brief moments of S2 Logan Echolls. I haven't seen S3.) But oh, selfish unstable violent irritating Logan, with his unbalanced smile and his habit of sitting in Duncan's lap and his slow, sarcastic speech patterns. It was great while it lasted!

[spn] professional evil-killer
by crazylittleme - they're both dorks, but sam wears it better.
Saaaaaaam. Interesting: at the time of uploading this, my enormous crush on Sam didn't exist yet. I still identify far more with Dean, but have admitted to loving Sam's stupid hair and wonderful smile and Samness. Um, I love this icon because even though SPN does very good angst, my favourite moments are the silly ones. All of 'Tall Tales' and 'Hollywood Babylon'. Every time they make fun of themselves, each other, and the life that they lead. And they ARE both huge dorks on occasion, and while Dean's dork-face is adorable...Sam does 'dork' with his whole body.
[tw] palindrome personality
by be_a_smartie - torchwood is about death, on the most basic level.
There are approximately five billion icons of Captain Jack Harkness in my icon folders, but this is the current choice because I like the colouring and the pensive feel to it. The 'palindrome personality' concept was one of my favourite things to come out of Paramagnetic, and I'll lift the explanation of it from the commentary that I wrote for that fic: Jack as we see him in Torchwood has the brittle amorality and the subtle darkness that the Captain Jack Harkness we first encountered in ‘The Empty Child’ does. He only changed for the better once he was exposed to the Doctor and Rose. After their abandonment, their betrayal, he…reverted. Not quite. He kept moving, but into a much darker place. & of course the IT'S ALL ABOUT DEATH that was the theme of that fic, and yes, the theme of the show, and the main reason why I still love it even when it is silly.
[hp] break down the sun
by sharkina - slightly misquoted dylan thomas poem. hurrah.
This was initially uploaded because I needed a HP icon for my
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
And death shall have no dominion.
No more may gulls cry at their ears
Or waves break loud on the seashores;
Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
Though they be mad and dead as nails,
Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.
(As I told Ji: you are so lucky nobody asked me about the icon I am using for this post, which ALSO has keywords from this poem, and which would have triggered pages and pages of me talking about death & courage & boats.)
Anyway, this icon means...striving towards impossible goals, being stubborn and refusing to stop fighting. Which is very HP, I think.
[dw] don't look away
by maddeinin - shattering your childhood safeties since 2007
I HAD to have a 'Blink' icon to remind me of how much I fucking love Steven Moffat and his ability to wreak merry hell with the Whoniverse. This just captures, for me, the terrible dichotomy that he created: Sally's quiet moment and the tragic, graceful figures of the angels framing her, and the fact that instead of being attractive, this shot was so frightening. The whole concept of the weeping angels, that covering your eyes (the tried-and-true way to make the monsters go away) will just kill you faster...ack. Brilliant. Awful. Moffat to the core.
[heroes] fighting gattaca
by skiescancrack - mohinder suresh: not as oblivious as he looks
All right, maybe I was being a bit generous, but I think I uploaded this just after the episode where Mohinder confronted Sylar about being, well, Sylar, and drugged him and tied him to a chair and made big woeful YOU BETRAYED OUR HARMONIOUS ROAD-TRIPPING LOVE!! eyes at him. And managed to look badass even when bleeding on the ceiling, which is pretty impressive. (I needed a Heroes icon. I love Mohinder Suresh a whole lot and would molest him in 0.04 seconds and date him in maybe 2.72 seconds, and his glasses are sexy.) The keywords are, of course, a reference to the film Gattaca and what it says about the dangers of genetic supremacy. Mohinder isn't 'special', but he manages to be interesting and a key player anyway. I LOVE YOU MOHINDER. DESPITE YOUR USELESS VOICEOVERS OF CRYPTIC INANITY.
[avatar] gratuitous daddy issues
by rawles - seriously, it's like they stuck a fangirl magnet on him and then stood back and giggled.
Haaaaa. This is Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation refusing to duel his father, and about to be exiled as a result. This is my icon of Being Amused At Fandom, because Zuko's daddy issues were actually very well executed and make for excellent character continuity, but as soon as I saw this backstory episode (Zuko Alone? I think?) I had to laugh, because I know how fandom reacts to tortured woobie princelings like Zuko. And it is not at all unlike lead shavings to a magnet. I'M ONTO YOU, CREATORS. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
[bsg] HUGZ
by aeonian - this icon will never be deleted. ever.
There is no profound story here. This is a scene from one of my favourite episodes from my favourite season of my favourite show, and it features two of my favourite characters hugging gleefully. jdhdkhadjkHSAOIDFDH. Basically: Kara is chafing because she can't fly and Lee is off on a grand daredevil mission that a) should have been hers, and b) could kill him, which she responded to by snapping at him because she kind of loves him a whole lot. And Roslin is still finding her feet when it comes to being President of the Colonies in front of a control room full of military types. And then Lee's voice comes over the radio saying that he destroyed the fuel store or whatever it was, and Kara kind of shrieks and hugs Roslin and then remembers who she was hugging and says, "Sorry, Madam President...sorry..." and they're both grinning and then Roslin hugs her as well and eeeeeeeeee, they are such awesome female characters and S1 of BSG was just SO GOOD and this icon is for JOYOUS HUGS because sometimes you just need an icon for joyous hugs, you know?

It's great. Well. The show is terrible. But Logan is great.
