Hidden Common Knowledge - Australia 2.0

(Background on the concept of common & hidden knowledge, and examples of posts)

[livejournal.com profile] tammaiya has already done an excellent Australian one of these here, with a focus on history and politics. I encourage you to check hers out before looking at mine, which is a bit of a mixed bag.

1) Which country is Australia closest to, geographically speaking?

2) Why might the Shadow Minister for Climate Change and the Environment be expected to burst into song?

3) Who are the Chaser? (Bonus: How are they connected to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation?)

4) Who was the first Prime Minister of Australia? Can you name any other Australian PMs?

5) Which of the two main political parties is in government at the moment, and who are the current leaders of the two parties?

6) Who are Abbott & Costello?

7) What are the ARIAs? The Logies?

8) What is a Tim Tam?

9) What is an Akubra?

10) What does ANZAC stand for, when is ANZAC Day, and what anniversary does this day commemorate?

11) When is Australia Day, and what anniversary does this day commemorate?

12) When Australians talk about Princess Mary, who are they most likely referring to?

13) Can you name any Australian authors? (Bonus: How about any who have won the Booker or Nobel Literature prizes?)

If you do know any of these, you can feel free to answer. Or comment and tell me how stumped you are. Aussies aren't allowed to play, for obvious reasons :D
