List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
1) The Faint - Southern Belles In London Sing
Scarlet boots, the kiss of death
Patience and the end of it
Blended angels, whispered love
Countdown til it's gone
I am having a torrid affair with this song. I want to tear its clothes off. It's like my BAD BIKER BOYFRIEND, complete with disapproval from my family, though this is really because I keep turning my speakers up and up and up because the louder you play this, the more awesome it sounds.
2) Joan Baez - Lily, Rosemary & The Jack Of Hearts (Live)
Backstage the girls were playin' five-card stud by the stairs,
Lily had two queens, she was hopin' for a third to match her pair.
Outside the streets were fillin' up, the window was open wide,
A gentle breeze was blowing, you could feel it from inside.
Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts.
Okay, so I have a deep and abiding love for pop-folk, which can likely be attributed to being brought up listening to The Seekers. Joan Baez has a wonderful voice, and I really love this type of narrative-intense ballad. Especially when it involves card games.
3) Aida (Original Broadway Recording) - A Step Too Far
Have I compromised my people
In my passion and my haste?
This is one of those fantastic songs that blends the lovers and the resigned/neglected Other Woman. See also: the Love Montage that opens Act 2 of Les Miserables, just as this song opens Act 2 of Aida. (Is there a tradition...?) It's soaring and overly dramatic and beautifully harmonised in the true Elton John/Tim Rice style. (Actually, now that I think about it, Aida has TWO songs featuring this love-triangle, the other being Not Me. Which is also great. One of these days I will just make a big long post in which I babble about how Aida and Wicked are secretly the same musical and how this relates to, uh, The Lion King and Prince of Egypt. Never underestimate my ability to wax enthusiastic about musicals, even the animated ones.)
4) Voxtrot - Whiskey
...apparently no lyrics for this exist online. OKAY THEN.
The only cool-looking artist on this list. Voxtrot is one of those artists for whom I would totally go to every concert and buy shirts of dubious aesthetic value, if I only lived on the right bloody continent. As is, I'm pretty sure they're far too new-and-indie for me to hope that they'll ever have any proximity to me whatsoever, so I content myself with just listening to their music. A lot.
5) Dave Carter & Tracy Grammar - Ordinary Town
This is an ordinary town, and the prophet stands alone
This is an ordinary town and we crucify our own
And every highway leads you prodigal again
To the ordinary houses you were brought up in
I think you'd be hard-pressed finding a time within the past year and a half when this hasn't been one of my favourite songs of the moment. I love everything about it. I devour the lyrics and the harmony and the guitar and, yes, it's kind of pop-folk. (Pop-country? Maybe)
6) Josh Groban - You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)
Don’t give up
It’s just the weight of the world
When your heart’s heavy I’ll -
I will lift it for you
Yes, I admit it, I am a total sucker for these trendy pop-classical singers. But I loved Josh Groban before I even knew about any of the others, and have played his latest album a hell of a lot. This song in particular - it's not clever, but it's strong and sure and melodic. And quite frankly, Josh Groban could sing the alphabet and I'd probably still think it was gorgeous.
7) Great Big Sea - Yarmouth Town
But if with me you'd like to linger
I'll tie some string all around my finger
As you walk by, pull on my string
I'll come down and let you right in
You see, I really wasn't kidding about the pop-folk. The album containing this song, Sea Of No Cares, has been played in my car more than any other CD I own. I have firmly cemented, self-invented harmonies that I sing loudly and confuse my passengers with. And this song is just so fun, all about trying to do the honourable thing and then HURRAH! the girl just wants to be fuckbuddies and it's kind of Rapunzel meets perky guitar meets nudist colony only...not really. Shhh, just go with it.

schiarire except she'll just spill Spencer Krug all over my flist and that's just useless to me, because I am a dirty heathen and can't stand his music. At all. It's all about self-interest; I'm going go with those whose tastes I can probably trust to provide me with something I'll like.
Ergo:
setissma,
_leareth,
liminalliz,
tammaiya,
chaos_pockets,
unravels &
loki013.
Though if you want to steal it anyway and upload nice music and pretend I tagged you, GO FOR YOUR LIFE. I'm not exactly going to complain.

Did you ever see that teen flick half a million years ago with him playing a high school teacher who has to teach summer school? He's totally one of those guys who got yummier as he got older.

It's going to be a covers-only extravaganza, anyway. *sniffs*

I wanna do this one, so yay! It might be the weekend before I have time to, but I will. :]

You know, I have never considered that before, but the more I think about it, the more I agree.
I see that we have a ton of fandoms in common - Torchwood, Doctor Who, Grey's BSG & you've read Larklight - so I'm friending you.

*friends back* More people in the world need to know of the joy that is Larklight.
