but where is N*SYNC?

Link from [livejournal.com profile] dopplegl -

As Caleb said: wow, this explains a lot!

(I particularly love how they felt the need to point out that Elton John is really gay. And that Cyndi Lauper is on their 'Safe List', considering that she guest-starred and perfomed live in the final season of Queer as Folk.)

I was going to be a lot more flippant about this until I looked around the website a bit more and found that their program acronym, C.H.O.P.S, stands for Changing Homosexuals into Ordinary People (Sadistically? Stupidly? The S is kind of...unexplained).

Ordinary people.

Not many things can make me near-incoherent with fury, but this is one of them. Fuck.

But... some of these bands make no sense!

I love ex gay sites. I love them so much. They make me giggle.

For more fun from CHOPS, try this (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1802175110). Linked to today from [livejournal.com profile] dot_queer_snark :D (post here (http://community.livejournal.com/dot_queer_snark/10359.html).

Generally I have quite a good sense of humour about the whole thing, but occasionally I take enormous offense to their existence. Which is, I suppose, mildly hypocritical.

I'm no longer surprised, but I still get angry.

[identity profile] not-in-denial.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm offended by them. But if I don't laugh, I cry. At least there's something of a funny side to them, unlike some things I've recently been exposed to (http://www.lovegodsway.org/C.H.O.P.S.). :/

I do wonder what those types of "Christians" would have to say about someone like me, or cisgendered intersex people. I mean, am I gay or not? What's "gay" when you're outside the gender binary? I think it would just explode their heads.

Hmm, head exploding. Maybe I should try that. I don't think anyone would particular miss places and things like CHOPS or Exodus or whatnot.

I totally want to email "Donnie" and send a list of ridiculous bands, including lots of classic country and possibly Billy Gilman and Amy Grant, the only two "Christian" artists on my radar in any way. (no I do not listen!)

[identity profile] mercuriazs.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so, uh.

A long time ago, I learned that it's always best to turn the other cheek and not get involved with crazy fuckers. Don't antagonize them, don't try to reason with them, and especially don't email them pretending to be a confused teenybopper.

But I guess sometimes I forget that last one.

Dear Donnie,
I am a young woman who was really into the Gay Music Scene until I came across the page on Gay Bands at lovegodsway.org. Then I realized-- I didn't know the first THING about Gay Music!!! Thank you so much for opening my eyes to the real truth behind musicians like Scissor Sisters, Jay-Z, and Frank Sinatra. I hadn't had any idea about those guys-- and I hadn't even HEARD of Velvet Underground. But then I checked them out at iTunes, and they're actually pretty cool-- Wilco too! (Though I have a question about The Faint-- do you know why they named one of their albums "Wet from Birth"? It seemed kind of suspicious to me, but when I asked my friends about it they just laughed.)

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the recommendations. As soon as I get enough money, I'm totally checking out Dogstar. Also, if I have to choose between kd lang and Arcade Fire, which message is the least sinful and overtly Homosexual? Thanks again!!!
-Mercy D.

P.S. I tried to look up your band on iTunes, but you don't seem to be there. You should consider signing on-- I mean, I know they're a stronghold of Satan, but you gotta get the message out!

Orrrr maybe I'm just a bitch.

It's the multiple punctuation that lends it that air of authenticity.

Dude I know!!! Punctuation adds emphasis and sincerity!!!! Call me Christine!!!!!

I'm ALMOST positive it's a joke. I mean, how can it NOT be. But at the same time... well, people are batshit insane.

I read somewhere that it's a hoax and that "Donnie" is actually an actor/director named... Fuck! Where the fuck was that link?

Wait, I remembered! here (http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2007/01/23/the-bible-says/#comments), at Feministe (http://www.feministe.us/blog/), in the comments.

But yes. It's okay. It's all a satire of those crazy folks.

YES.

I was afraid I was going to go to a legitimate hell, one with fire and brimstone and no purgatory. :D
