Ji. Fry. Merc. What the hell.

I think I died somewhere right around "How's tricks?"

Yes, I'm allowed to be online, because I just spent an hour and a half reading about anosognosia. I get to learn about some pretty weird shit.

This is possibly an excellent time to mention my deep and abiding love for deconstructing scientific words into their Greek roots. (Oh, what? Don't even try to pretend you haven't got a hobby at least that geeky. Don't even.)

A (lack of) - nosos (disease) - gnosia (knowledge). It's so neat. And I love gnosia, as a root, because it gives us agnostic ('I don't know'), Gnosticism, and a whoooole lot of lovely psychological impairments: agnosia, simultagnosia, prosopagnosia (inability to recognise faces, from the Greek prosopon, meaning face). And so on. HI, I'M AN ENORMOUS DORK.

I may not know fancy medical terms, but I can understand women.

And that puts you ahead of thousands of frustrated men, my dear :)

Ah, but your knowledge of long latin and greek words that mean things to do with the human body puts you ahead of millions of people!

...in what, the Mostly Useless Knowledge stakes? I'll sit here with my pretentious words and you can sit over there with your wonderful girlfriend.

Ho :P

See, now I can't win: If I try and compliment you, I end up in trouble with her, and if I agree, then...ahh, my brain.

And all this knowledge, and all I can think of is the father from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

[identity profile] darthrami.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
:-o

I adore that movie. You will too! but only if you like romantic comedies. It's very silly. Anyway, the main character's parents are from Greece, and her father walks around saying "give me a word, any word, and I will show you how it comes from Greek." Of course, a smart-ass little girl says "Kimono" and he makes something up.

...of course, he also thinks that Windex cures all.

I sadly had to have "tricks" pointed out to me, but from that point on, ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I just hope no one was listening to me, because mine was a frightened, yet DELIGHTED laugh.
