hello, real life

Yup. You know the uni year has started when you're sitting in the refectory at 8:30 on a Monday morning downing coffee and hoping it'll get you through your 9am lecture.

Aaaand now I have nothing to do until 2pm, when [livejournal.com profile] izumihydra and I give our seminar presentation and then this summer research project is OVER AND DONE WITH. Hurrah.

For those that are interested, this semester I'm taking:

- Genes: Replication & Expression
- Ecology of Health & Disease
- Biological Bases of Behaviour
- an independent research course with my perception lecturer from last year, on the visual detection of motion

<td>you chose AZ - your Enneagram type is THREE.

"I need to succeed"

Achievers are energetic, optimistic, self-assured, and goal oriented.

How to Get Along with Me

  • Leave me alone when I am doing my work.
  • Give me honest, but not unduly critical or judgmental, feedback.
  • Help me keep my environment harmonious and peaceful.
  • Don't burden me with negative emotions.
  • Tell me you like being around me.
  • Tell me when you're proud of me or my accomplishments.

What I Like About Being a Three

  • being optimistic, friendly, and upbeat
  • providing well for my family
  • being able to recover quickly from setbacks and to charge ahead to the next challenge
  • staying informed, knowing what's going on
  • being competent and able to get things to work efficiently
  • being able to motivate people

What's Hard About Being a Three

  • having to put up with inefficiency and incompetence
  • the fear on not being -- or of not being seen as -- successful
  • comparing myself to people who do things better
  • struggling to hang on to my success
  • putting on facades in order to impress people
  • always being "on." It's exhausting.

Threes as Children Often

  • work hard to receive appreciation for their accomplishments
  • are well liked by other children and by adults
  • are among the most capable and responsible children in their class or school
  • are active in school government and clubs or are quietly busy working on their own projects

Threes as Parents

  • are consistent, dependable, and loyal
  • struggle between wanting to spend time with their children and wanting to get more work done
  • expect their children to be responsible and organized

I feel the best testament to the above is that I went through the HTML removing the irrelevant parts and fixing all the spelling errors. 'Achiver', indeed.

ETA: Sometimes my university is adorably dorky. In addition to the online services 'ISIS' and 'ANUBIS' (Interactive Student Information Services and ANU Business Information Services), they now have 'APOLLO' (ANU Polling Online). D'aww. I am so easily amused. And also changing the icon for this post to Apollo's I AM SURROUNDED BY PLEBES face, just because.

I did genes, replication and expression and biological bases of behaviour. I hope you get a better tutor for the latter than I did, god the tutorials were dull with that guy. GRaE is piss easy, BBoB not so much but fairly interesting, though when I did it we had 2 hour lectures which was not so nice.

But. But plebes are cute.

When you can kick them in the head.

No, no... Real life and other such horror stories: being at work at six-thirty in the morning. Doing full shift, which includes being yelled at, cleaning dishes, running around like a moron and having to deal with countless other "I am Not a Morning Person" persons... And thee-nnnn, being at uni in time for a ten o'clock lecture.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
