So... X-Men. I keep forgetting that I haven't blogged about it because I've been talking about it on chat non-stop for a week. I am seeing it again this afternoon and taking COPIOUS NOTES so that my ridiculously epic fic about Raven has some sense of coherent chronology. (It's long and features intense siblings instead of telepathic porn, so fandom will probably not go nuts for it, but apparently my thing these days is to happily write long thoughtful stories about women from comic book movies.)

So far the whole First Class fandom has underwhelmed me, as I've only read one or two portrayals of Erik that don't make want to wince. I'm pleased we've embraced the Charles Is Kind Of A Glorious Asshole truth, though.

Also: the credits song has snuck entirely under my skin. I LOVE IT. Gay disco mutants, as littledust has pointed out! I have it on repeat; I am writing to it; I am mentally choreographing a dance to it.

I think I'll make a reading list cut soon, simply because my final exams are too close for comfort and I need the internet to take up a much, much smaller part of my day than it currently does. I also have plans to rehaul my entire system of LJ-ing and fic-posting nearer to the end of the year -- I'll keep you posted.

schiarire and I had a theory that everyone is writing Erik so that Charles can be described in detail, and this means their characterisation of Erik is a conduit for a fantasy of a very specific type instead of being a reasoned examination of who ERIK actually is.

That is a shame, because they're equally interesting. And personally, I'd be more tempted to go the other way, and use Charles as a medium to explore Erik.

I was pretty into XMM fanfic for a while, but I have honestly no desire to read fic for First Class. Even though I'm really happy Xavier/Magneto is A Thing online again. This bemuses me!

Despite that, I would probably be down for reading about Raven.

Also, and forgive me if I have already asked you this, but do you know of any First Class fic communities or writers here on LJ? I've found a fair amount of fic on the AO3, but have had somewhat less luck here.

And littledust is almost done with a fic that I have been reading as she goes, and I am PRE-EMPTIVELY reccing it because it's amazing and I will be very disappointed if fandom does not fall at her feet :D

I ship Charles/Erik AND I ship Erik/Raven in a kind of close solidarity with occasional making out way, AND I am obsessed with the way Charles and Raven are each other's priority and best friend and only equal for the majority of their lives.

I... hm. My attitude about Charles/Erik is very "of course" and like "go with God, my friends" in that it is overwhelmingly obvious and the main pairing of the canon but I feel no urge to seek out fic or write my own. BUT I am fascinated by Charles and Raven and how the trajectory of Charles/Erik changes that. And by post-movie Raven. Which is why I'm so interested in the prospect of your fic!

I know what you mean about first class. I really really like the potential in the movie for great fiction but no one really seems to be picking up on it. After seeing the movie I wanted to write something about Erik being on the run and the people Erik would have had to kill to get the info he did, and then another one about Shaw's backstory but ended up pausing halfway through with a..."will anyone read these" sort of realization. But whatever POWER THROUGH DOUBT, Y/Y?

I did two pieces for the kink meme one porn, and one about Erik's potential for violence and they were both fun but the latter is the only one I'm proud of. I'm really going to look forward to your fic about Raven, long fic, good fic, thoughtful fic <3

I think so! It's not without problems (I had to quell a few fights between the part of my mind that enjoys seeing pretty girls in attractive lingerie, and the part of my mind pointing out that there are FAR TOO MANY SCENES featuring pretty girls in attractive lingerie) but I do think it's enjoyable, and full of characters you want to see more of.

Plus it is also the tragic love story of two tremendously powerful guys who are both assholes in their own special ways.
