you're just angry and covered in sauce

So I suppose I should say something about Belgium. Seeing as how tomorrow is my last day here.

- Brussels itself is lovely! It's very nice to see [livejournal.com profile] drealle again and hear about her glamorous job in pharmacoepidemiology and stay in her glamorous apartment near Porte de Hal. And it's nice to be in a foreign country where I know enough of the language to actually hold conversations and buy my own train tickets and not be reduced to pathetically mouthing parl'inglese? through the glass.

- The Magritte Museum <33333 I AM IN LOVE. I didn't know much about Magritte beyond 'ceci n'est pas un pipe' and the dude with the apple on his face (you know the one) but the collection is huge, and gorgeous, and I am a total Surrealism convert. I bought a poster of my favourite piece, and wish I could have bought ten more, but they were €12 each.

- The main Musee des Beaux-Arts was also AMAZING: lots of Breugels, a copy of a Bosch, some Breugel the Elder pretending to be Bosch (what the hell, seriously) and a wonderful collection of 15th-18th century Flemish art that focuses on the sexy bits of, well, everything. Any Biblical story that could possibly involve naked women was there, including three different Susannahs With Old Men (one of which also included a naked-woman bronze fountain that sprinkled water out of its tits, classy) and some deeply disturbing paintings of Lot and his 'daughters', who were invariably wearing transparent gauze and sitting on his lap being fondled. Plus the usual amount of goddesses bathing while naked and gods hitting on naked women and Mary Magdelene appearing naked in a vision to some abbot or other &c. &c. AND THE ONE OF DEAD MARAT IN THE BATH <3 I LOVE ART. I was very surprised that there was only one St Sebastian in the whole place, actually.

- I drank some beer. Under protest. Luckily it was raspberry flavoured and as such did not really taste of...beer. Excellent. I have also refused mussels, but have embraced the hot chocolate and the spéculoos, and have waffle-related plans for tomorrow.

- On that subject: flavoured jenever, it's a thing, more countries should get into that. I had vanilla flavour, but I could also have had watermelon or lychee. That is a flexibility that I admire in my wickedly alcoholic spirits.

- BRUGES. I WENT TO BRUGES TODAY. Nobody tried to kill anybody else, so it was not at all like the movie, except for the fact where the city itself is almost aggravatingly beautiful. I climbed the 366 stairs to the belfry; I expect my thighs to make themselves known tomorrow. I visited a museum dedicated to frites (also, ate a lot of frites).

- Right now I am mainlining Miranda like there's no tomorrow. Which there sort of isn't. Because I am SLEEPING IN.

Jenever is great! I spent four days in Amsterdam last year drinking nothing else.

Kriek! I love that stuff. It was two Euros a bottle when I went. XD I must've taken the day train from Antwerp three times before I got through the entirety of the Musee in Brussels.

BRUGES. *_________*

IS IT NOT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE EVER, WTF.

I feel like I missed out, not having jenever. Clearly I should go back! :D
