adventures with an umbrella
Seized with the sudden and consuming need to acquire some seasonal nailpolish, I ran out into the rain in search of something red and glittery. Or even green and glittery!
NADA. The chemist that's listed as a stockist of Orly polish didn't have any Orly polish, and none of the brands in Kmart had anything stuffed with colourful glitter.
While sulking and recovering from the first 25-minute walk in pouring rain (and psyching myself up for the return journey), I DID stumble across a random and amazing $5 book clearance sale, so I spent my nailpolish-allocated $20 on The Lives of Christopher Chant and the first three books in MWT's Thief series. I had to refrain myself from buying a LOT of other books, as you may imagine. FIVE DOLLARS.
ETA: Nailpolish crisis averted! I found an Australian website that sells China Glaze. RED SPARKLES AND GREEN SPARKLES, HEADING MY WAY. And an eggplant creme shade. And Seche Base. Happy almost-birthday to me!

I took a look at my FOUR nailpolish bottles and decided I was in the wrong corner of the internet.

I've loved the Howl books for ages but I only discovered the Chrestomanci books recently! I had a splurge at the local library and read heaps of them in a weekend. I think Lives was my favourite, so I was very pleased to find it!

I've been reading it since I was about twelve, and every time I do I see new cool things in it. The time I read it after I took Nautical Archaeology and realized she'd made a tiny 1 word throwaway mention of the fact that they were clinker-built AKA THE WAY THE VIKINGS DID BOATS I just about died of heart-eyes. And all the stuff she knows about Beowulf! And Authurian legend! And Fitella! &Fitella;
So yes. Hexwood. Awesome book. Awesome amounts of Genius Bonus built in.

I will keep an eye out for Hexwood then, thanks!

I am currently in love with the OPI Burlesque collection for sparkly shimmery Christmassy polishes, but it's not as outrageously sparkly as the one you bought.
.... Oh my God I know which nail polish you bought (http://swatchgirl.com/?p=829) just from your description. Nail polish blogs are going to kill me.
EDIT: HAHAH AND THEN I CLICKED THE LINK I HADN'T NOTICED BEFORE IN YOUR ENTRY AND I WAS RIGHT. I'm not sure whether to be giggly as anything or just horrified that this much of my brain is apparently dedicated to remembering posts about nail polish.
