a lifelong dream realised

Dear internet: tonight I cooked char kway teow and it was DELICIOUS. Thank you, thank you.

There had better be at least one Asian grocer in Orange, because that is going on my regular repertoire. The chap at the store we went to today was lovely, he took one look at the kway teow and beansprouts and was like YOU NEED CHYE SIM!! and bullied another customer into showing us where it was. And then he got very excited when I put some Sugus on the pile, and he said terima kasih when we left, and all the Indonesian I ever knew went right out of my head (saya tidak suka?? sembilanbelas???) and I just sort of gave him a smile of desperate gratitude and fled.

In other news, applying for a British passport is a headache and a half but it still beats applying for a fucking visa. And once I've got it I can just renew it every decade. Two passports for me! HELLO THERE, WORK AND TRAVEL WITHIN THE EUROPEAN UNION.

ABSOLUTELY. We used Chinese sausage and some strips of leftover roast beef because that's what was in the fridge, but I love how you can throw in ANY PROTEIN THAT TAKES YOUR FANCY. Next time I want to make sure it has prawns and tofu puffs.

The thought of staying somewhere without an Asian grocer gives me the heebie jeebies. If there isn't one, let me know and I'll send care packages or something because no Asian food to cook would be horrible and sad (and in my case likely contribute to a depressive suicidal state).

I mean, I can GET BY with the various types of soy sauce and noodles and chilli pastes that are sold in most Coles stores, but... fresh kway teow! And cheap Asian greens! And delicious drinks that have something to do with lychee!

I think if my flatmates and I had to get by with only the Coles/Woolies Asian section we'd cry non-stop.

(Get the aloe vera drinks. They are absolutely fantastic chilled for summer time.)

Then again, there's nothing wrong with nineteen packs of Sugus!

TWO PASSPORTS omg I'm jealous. XD Good luck with that!
