waily waily waily

(My mother and sister should never have been allowed near the Tiffany Aching books -- whenever they feel like mocking anyone's woe they break into loud renditions of WAILY WAILY WAILY. Ah, fond memories of home.)

This particular WAILY is due to the vagaries of my brain, which last night deigned to produce a few hundred words on the next chapter of the Merlin heist AU (I know, right! You'd almost forgotten that glorious monument to my lack of attention span!) and tonight... it doesn't want to do that any more.

Tonight it wants to invent a large cast of peripheral characters for an original story of mine that I'm not actually going to write for YEARS; for now I'm just letting the concept percolate slowly. But I made the mistake of giving one of them a name and an exuberent personality, and then he forced me to flesh out the two main characters some more, and now dialogue is taking place inside my head* without my consent. Sadly this is far from being an uncommon occurrence. I am trying to hold off on writing any of it down.

MERLIN CHARACTERS, SPEAK UP. I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER MY BICKERING LESBIAN TEENAGERS.

*It is not sparkling dialogue. Most of it is three people playing the YA-fantasy-fiction version of Hot Or Not while at a banquet.

Hey, at least it's ideas getting in the way of your ideas ;) I know what you mean though. Sometimes I just want to lasso my brain and force it to pay attention to the CURRENT creative pursuit. LIVE IN THE NOW, BRAIN.
