this one gets its own post
To our charming practice manager,
YOU are being PAID to host medical students. Here are some things it is unacceptable to do with your medical students:
1) Pull them out of a consultation where they are learning! actual! medicine! in order to use them as free labour when it comes to shelving drug samples. No, this is NOT 'educational', nor is it in any way a good use of their limited time.
2) Double-book the nurse so that more procedures get done in a day, leading to a student being asked to do a procedure -- which she has NEVER DONE BEFORE -- while completely devoid of supervision. (It was not hard. I was fine. But it should not have happened.) Again, students are not here to earn extra money for you! They are here to LEARN FUCKING MEDICINE.
3) Upon discovering that someone hasn't washed up their dishes in the staff room, come and interrupt them while they are taking blood and start telling them sternly that everyone here has to do their own dishes, without asking and in fact determining that they are not responsible for the mess and have actually washed up everything of their own, every single time.
4) Inform them that despite the fact that you accepted TWO students to the practice under the direct supervision of your husband the Super Doctor, only one of them at a time is allowed in his consultation room, because it's 'intimidating for the patients' to have two. This despite the fact that the other two doctors only work part-time and did not sign up as supervisors and so have no obligation whatsoever to let students sit in with them, and doing procedures for the RN does NOT COUNT towards required clinical sessions.
Thank you for making our time here so special.
