[science] dr fahye needs coffee
by deutscheami - for me & my med school exploits, so please don't steal.
This icon is every stereotype of the tired, caffeine-fuelled surgeon that exists. And it's true! And I HAD to have at least one icon to throw at the world when I feel wrung out, when I feel like all I want to do is sit down with my hands around a cup of coffee and snoooooze.
[deadwood] if ye break faith
by so_spiffed -- (we shall not sleep / though poppies grow)
This is Alma from Deadwood, a character I couldn't ignore when I was building my Awesome Women icon collection. I love her character journey, and her strength, and the fact that the historical context of the narrative only lets her exercise this strength in certain ways but she's still a wonderful and independent person. The 'poppies' theme is because when she first appears she's addicted to laudanum, and all the words come from In Flanders Fields, for the imagery.
[lucifer] all the best tunes
by spiffed_icon -- mike carey's lucifer. find it. revere it.
WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN. I like the framing of the icon, the fact that it shows a quiet moment in Lux instead of one of the more adventuresome scenes. To me it feels like the great and heavy sense of tiredness that infuses this Lucifer, and in fact the Lucifer that I used to write, to some extent. Having seen everything and done everything and having come to terms with your own history, but still carrying its weight. And I like the positioning of the speech bubble, which is music: somewhere between Lucifer and the piano. And of course, the devil has all the best tunes.
[im] planes of existence
by innerpoise -- imagination made flesh
This one is, to me, Pepper's life as Pepper herself sees it. She's in the foreground, she's the one in focus. Tony is the background, and distant, and -- broken, in some way. It's an icon for her worry and her drive and the way she tries not to define herself by her association with Tony Stark but still can't help the fact that he intrudes on her existence even when he's on the other side of the world; even when missing presumed dead. OH MAN I WANT TO SEE THE SECOND FILM. The words aren't from anything, they're just an attempt to put all this rambling into a short snappy line.
[bones] our dear invisibilities
by burgundy_shoes -- look I refuse to call him 'lancelot'
SWEETS. OH SWEETS. Sometimes I love him so much I want to hug him and never let go. This is an icon for his professional life, actually, and the way his mind works: I think it's a fantastic design, with the darkness creating a tunnel vision where it's just him and the person he's looking at. Just the distractors and the relationship. Just the illumination of patterns that have been invisible.
...I think Lancelot is a stupid nickname for him, okay, although I understand why he likes it and why Daisy - who is growing on me, because she's good for him - uses it. But to me HE IS JUST SWEETS.
[other] fixated on your verdigris
by jillicons -- (wizards will give us lemonade)
As soon as I saw this icon it reminded me of the Emerald City sets from the Wicked musical, so I gave it keywords from when Elphaba is singing about how green she is. The comment words are actually from another song called Emerald City, by the Seekers, an Australian pop-folk group very popular with, uh, people the age of my parents. And me. I saw them live in concert once and it was the highlight of my life up to that point, okay. Emerald City is a very simple song, sort of lullaby-like.
Here, have a video of the Seekers singing We Are Australian (which was co-written by one of its members). Featuring Judith Durham's vooooooooice, which despite her tinyness next to the men is just -- expansive, and gorgeous. WATCH IT. This is also one of the few songs that can make me feel maybe a tiny bit patriotic.
And HAVE ANOTHER ONE. This is my favourite song of theirs <333
