The place where we had cocktails last week? Soni's? End of semester MPE party there this Thursday! What would you recommend off the menu?

Looking at the website, they seem to have changed the menu completely since I was there last! But the food is consistently delicious; if you like the LOOK of something, it'll probably be good.

Damn, now my mouth is watering. I really want to try that haloumi. And the prawns! And the eggplant! TRY AND REPORT BACK :D

[identity profile] the-grynne.livejournal.com 2010-05-31 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
OH I WILL. And since I'm dragging [livejournal.com profile] calculare with me, there'll probably be photos too. :D

KANGAROO LOINS LOL. I already know that the foreign students are going to order that one.

Ah! The kangaroo, actually, I have had before. It's amazing. The only other dish I remember with fondness is the stuffed mushrooms, which seem to have been removed.

OH MY GOD I'M SO HUNGRY.

I just ate 6 slices of hot Spanish salami, and a McCain Pizza Pocket (I can't believe they still make them, and they still taste exactly the same). My idea of a late night snack.

They misjudged the food at formal dinner so I had a piddly slice of roast beef along with my vegies, and the dessert servings were also pretty tiny.

I've been trying to cut down on the snacks I keep in my room, because if it's there then I'll eat it, but now I have nothing in my kitchenette except ground coffee and a juice popper. I kind of want to gnaw on my own hand.

I just typed up a paragraph of an excavation report wherein a consulting expert identified a found potsherd as being of Bii Ware.

I suspect that someone, somewhere in the misty annals of post-Roman archaeology, is playing Silly Buggers.

ps i got into my first choice for grad school, Leicester School of Museum Studies here i come

Sometimes I really wish medicine were an acceptable field in which to play Silly Buggers*.

*Not that this stops many medical professionals, I will hasten to add.

\o/ \o/ That is so awesome! When will you be there? GMaps informs me that Leicester is a piddly little distance from London, so If: January, Then: MEETUPS!!

Including various pre-term International Welcome Weeks and Orientation Weeks and what-have-you, I will be there more or less from mid-September 2010 to mid-September 2011. Oh, summer term dissertations and placements, how I don't love you - or what you do to my accommodation costs.

(This is assuming I am able to get a placement somewhere within commuting distance of university digs, ahhh. OH WELL, BURN THAT BRIDGE WHEN I COME TO IT.)

Which is to say: YES TO MEETUPS, assuming courseload allows. By all accounts, it is fairly intensive (she says, to the med student), so it is entirely possible that within a few months of starting, I will have tranformed into a Gollum-like creature, lurching back and forth in an endless loop between tutorials, library and dorm room, weeping and muttering softly under my duvet in the little free time I have.

No, I'm not suffering a fit of anxiety, why do you ask.

No need to make plans now :) If you are able to make it to London for a day, that would be great, but otherwise I could come up to Leicester and patiently coax you out of your duvet with cider.

I'd forgotten how ridonkulous the time difference is when you're on the other coast. Slowtime spam? I am zooming my way (one-week loan, ack) through Forster's Aspects of the Novel and some of the stuff he says is great, though I have a feeling I would appreciate it more if I had read ANY of the books he's talking about. Once he mentioned Austen's Emma and I felt pathetically grateful.

OH: PARCEL, ARRIVED?
