now I am all keen on the 'verse again

And finally, the writing meme questions from [livejournal.com profile] misura!

For Biconvex: were there any characters you considered putting in but didn't? Will they show up in the sequel? Will you write a sequel at some indeterminate point in time in the future?

I was saddened by the relative lack of Cruz in my own story, it's true. I was happy enough with the single nod to Kate as having shielding ability in her own right; frankly, Kate bores me and I've only seen up to 'Vital Signs' anyway so I couldn't speak to any potential increase in interest (or any of the characters who appear late in the season -- apparently there is someone called Alex?).

If I were to write a sequel other than the three things (which is at this point extremely unlikely; I have very little time, even less mental energy, and a pile of WIPs) it would definitely have Diana in it :D

Is there a story behind the names of the original characters? If yes: what's the story? If no: how do you decide on names for original characters in general?

Actually, I based nearly everyone in the psy-verse on relatives of mine; I have an uncle called Ian, though Ian Winter actually stemmed from the fact that I just like 'Winter' as a surname. And then he was all wintery shades in my head: his ponytail is blond, and the stud in his ear is the pale modified zircon. (I needed some way to describe seer lenses that wasn't Peter having contrived exposition-y thoughts.) His eyes are very pale blue. In my head he looks almost exactly like a blonder version of another uncle of mine, who also has an earring and a ponytail and is technologically inclined.

Virginia Crane was shoved together in a combination of Virginia Haussegger (<3333! Crane looks almost exactly like, er, a blonder Virginia Haussegger with slightly longer hair in a ponytail. I don't know why blonde ponytails were on my mind.) and...the fact that I've loved Crane as a slightly sinister surname ever since Batman Begins. So.

In the Three Things fic, the unnamed elderly woman in the first segment is probably called Noelle or something equally charming. I have a great-uncle called Roger, and to me it is an excellent elderly-man name, though it strikes me in retrospect that it might be a little too British for a White Collar fic. MAYBE ROGER IS BRITISH.

And last but not least: what did you base your choice of pasta-and-cheese on, in that scene where Peter comes home and asks what's for dinner? Did you consider other foods?

The most important thing about that food was that it had to be something easy, something that Elizabeth could make with half of her brain while using the other half to think about work. My own list of dinners you can make with half your brain does not actually include mac and cheese, because I've never actually made it as a whole dinner (I do, however, make a mean mac and cheese meatloaf, which is kind of like a shepherd's pie with cheesy pasta instead of cheesy potato on top). If Elizabeth was a member of my family, the I-can-make-this-on-autopilot dinner would be chicken stirfry with ginger & garlic & kecap manis, which even my brother and sister can manage to scrape together. It is the taste of my childhood! I am having cravings just thinking about it.

Um, long story short, I assume that there are a great many people who have a failsafe mac and cheese recipe and can make it with their eyes closed. And that Elizabeth could well be one of those people. (Hey, she loves Italian!)

Honestly, I had no ulterior motives whatsoever in asking you about this particular 'verse. Ahem.

So ... there might be White Collar fic with Diana in it at some point - even if it's not in this 'verse, that's still something to hope for.

And thank you muchly for the answers regarding the original characters (I see Crane, I think 'Denny Crane', so that's pretty much a completely different association) and the food thing, even if your listing of foods made me feel (1) somewhat of an inadequate cook (I need all of my brains when I'm cooking anything with a preparation involving more than 'shove in oven, wait twenty minutes') and (2) hungry.
