oops

My stint of furious and ill-advised novel-reading continues unabated. Today I made the glorious mistake of tuning in to my flist's current flailing about Megan Whalen Turner, and I read The Thief cover-to-cover. Glorious because I really liked it (despite the complete lack of female characters until, like, the last ten pages), but mistake because that's the only one in the series that the university library has. We'll see how long my povery can hold out over my bookwormitude before I make a break for Kinokuniya and buy the rest of the series.

Currently I'm trying to write, hoping that the sheer deluge of words going in will lead to a smaller-scale deluge of words coming out, but it isn't working as well as I'd hoped. I just want to inhale MORE BOOKS.

ETA: Speaking of books, guess who just tripped over her credit card and preordered [livejournal.com profile] sarahtales's second book, The Demon's Covenant? Yeah, that'd be me.

Also.

ALSO.

Kicking guiltily around bookdepository.co.uk (as one does) I discovered this stage version of Vernon God Little, one of my favourite books ever. (I blab about it in this post.)

I JUST

STAGE ADAPTATION?

COLIN MORGAN???

I am not sure whether to curse fate that I missed this confluence of AMAZING or to burst out laughing and never stop at the idea of Merlin and Vernon being played by the same person.

I have The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia (and am biting my nails for the release of the latest book) - in ratty paperbacks, mind, which have been in the bottom of wet book-bags more than once - but you're welcome to borrow them if you'd like.

It's not like there was even any kind of real cliffhanger, I'd have been perfectly content if I hadn't known that there were more books. But because there ARE...I want to know what they're about! Though I'd be quite happy if Eugenides just babbled smugly at me for 500 pages about nothing in particular.

I think you will like the next two books even better because there are the Best Female Characters. You've already met Eddis? Get ready to meet Attolia.

Eddis was amazing! I hope to see lots more of her. And although I didn't see much of Attolia, by the end of the book I was pretty convinced that Turner isn't the type of writer to construct an Evil Queen character that hasn't got a hell of a lot of interesting depth to her.

FREE SHIPPING! Music to my ears. :)

Although it shall have to wait a few days, since I too HAVE NO MONEY. :(

That website is an evil, evil place. I have to limit my visits severely in order to prevent all of my money from just going WHOOSH out of my bank account and leaving me cackling to my penniless self in an enormous pile of shiny books.

I know borrowed books are less fun, but have bookshelves full of books which don't really get enough love. No idea if any of them would be your taste, but any time you run out of books, feel free to come over and raid the shelves :)

Considering the frequency with which I find myself prowling around Fisher, and the number of books I usually take away from my College library shifts (and not to mention the HUGE amount of unread books at home, whence I shall be fleeing this weekend, to Stock Up) -- I think I'll be all right for the foreseeable future :D

This. So much.

But don't read ANYTHING, even the back cover copy before starting each book. Seriously, the back cover to book 3 totally spoils the plot of book 2 and so on and even the cover copy to book 2 spoils some plot developments you should really let take you unawares.

Noted! I'm certainly glad I wasn't spoiled for a single aspect of The Thief, so I'll do my best to maintain the veil of secrecy for myself.

Seconding, thirding, etc. all the people who've said you'll loooove The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia.

I was really surprised about how much I enjoyed The Thief due to aforementioned total lack of girls, though to be fair there are mostly only four characters in the entire book basically. But the strength of my love for Gen's stupid face apparently made sure that worked out.

But the other books. OH MY. She keeps taking it to another level.

Lots more of Eddis's bad self. AND oh my beloved bamfiest Attolia.
