Google Buzz

Oh, look, another social networking service for me to ignore, as I have successfully ignored Twitter, MySpace, Facebook (...mostly) and tumblr. I don't know how I would stay sane if I scattered my life across that many mediums! I have email, LJ and GReader, and sometimes I think I really can't afford the time I spend reading the latter.

I'm all about streamlining, what can I say.

It's Friday! Which means lectures instead of hanging around the ward (boo) but also means I can wear whatever I want (hurrah! my outfits lately have been very repetitive and professional).

Aaaand I am already running late for my first tutorial. FAHYE OUT.

Google Buzz frustrates me because it is THISCLOSE to being everything I want out of a non-LJ social network. Twitter-style informality/immediacy, GReader sharing, comment functionality, cross-platform integration, built-in contacts, and all accessible from work gmail? YES PLEASE.

And yet. skdjfsljfl. The social networking ~scene~ is so spread out already that this thing's greatest potential (IMO) is as an aggregator/conglomerator - but it doesn't even integrate with GReader and Twitter properly. I can see my own shared articles and tweets if I decide to link my accounts, but I can't funnel in a] other people's shared articles from my GReader, unless they decide to link their Buzz/Reader accounts themselves, b] my twitter follow-list, unless the people on said list decide to link their accounts individually, or c]...any other content that Buzzards are not themselves actively posting/linking. Wtf, Google. Wtf.

Call me when the RSS plugins start appearing. >:O

Ya, Buzz has me starting to feel that I'm at the tipping point of being spread too thin as well. iGoogle has helped me consolidate a lot of things into one site, but it's still starting to feel like too many tools for overlapping purposes.

And that's having sworn a blood oath never to use Twitter AND halting my MySpace usage completely.

The thing that really gets me is that, with judicious fiddling with FreeMyFeed/Yahoo Pipes/similar, you could certainly import authenticated twitter follow-feeds and even LJ flists into GReader. So there's that problem solved, even if you'd have to head over to LJ itself to comment on LJ posts, and so forth. But as far as simply reading goes, Google hasn't even implemented a proper way of viewing your Google feeds in your Google social media stream, which is in your Google inbox.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE, BIG G. NO EXCUSE.

Here's the evil thing: You can basically feed EVERYTHING into Buzz. And I think that's the point. And that was when I realised I didn't WANT the one platform I thought I did. Evil, evil Google.
