About to dash off to hospital, so I won't spend an epic amount of time talking about last night, but: if you ever get the chance to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, DO IT.
There was a whole saga with the horrible sticky humidity and the constant on-off rain and having to exchange our tickets twice because they'd closed off part of the stadium, BUT, oh, but, we ended up with nearly perfect seats. Much better than we'd paid for. Sheltered. High up so that we could see the formations.
I'm sure I'll be able to link to Mel's inevitable post of photos soon. I still can't decide if my favourite was the New Zealand Army Band (who did the haka and danced around and also marched in circles to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme) or the Norwegian King's Guard (terrifyingly precise drill team) or the Musical Ride of the NSW Mounted Police (magic horses. MAGIC.).
I was hopped up on Slushie and adrenalin and heat when we got back, so I had a piddling amount of sleep last night and I'm sure I'll pay for it today, but it was absolutely worth it.
