EYAI YULETIDE: anon questions post

This is a post in which people can ask specific questions to specific people! For example:

Q: I am writing a story with Marie in it! Fahye, can you tell me what colour her eyes are? And anything about how she first bought the Gallows?
A: Marie's eyes are brown with a teensy bit of a green tinge, and I have no mental canon about her purchase of the Gallows apart from the fact that it was a dingy storage area/basement that required extensive renovation. You can be as creative as you like if you want to cover that time of her life!

See? HANDY. Especially for those of us who are writing characters that belong to other people and are insecure about it. Or if you want to ask about politics or timelines or the plausibility of character X having contact with organisation Y. Or -- anything!

ALL QUESTIONS TO BE ANON. IP logging is off. You can answer any questions addressed to you with your normal LJ, obviously.

I suggest you track comments for this post, so that anyone can ask any questions at any time between now and December, and everyone will be notified, and the people being queried can come and answer them.

Tee: Yeah, Tee is basically a less charming version of Richard Hammond (http://www.showbizireland.com/photos/2008-11-richard-hammond.jpg). His hair is dark brown (almost black), eyes also brown-bordering-on-hazel. Short. Perpetually untidy.

Marie: Enough like Tee that they are recognisably siblings, but with much less mobility of facial expression, and much neater in appearance. I don't know if this will help anyone, but in my head she looks like a younger Minerva McGonagall.

Steph: Average height, gangly-skinny and pretty much flat-chested. Long, thin, extremely straight brown hair. Hazel eyes with a good deal of greeny-grey to them. Not really pretty, but not unattractive. Wears trousers and men's shirts and waistcoats.

Robin: Well-built and extremely tall. Like, Jared Padalecki tall. Pale and freckly with flaming red hair and fairly coarse features, but a lovely smile. Dresses simply but well. Often has this kind of facial hair (http://www.greysanatomynews.com/files/2008/12/khphotos116816-eric-stoltz2.jpg), though he is not as handsome as Eric Stoltz.

Prudence: quite plump, lots of blonde hair (always pinned up) and pale blue eyes. Her features are striking; classic is probably the best word for her. She looks good in the Victorian dresses and wears them with aplomb.

Dom: I have been trying to find a good reference picture for him, but he looks most like, um, a guy in one of my tutorial groups. Taller than everyone except Robin, black hair that's impeccably cut (comme ca! (http://i35.tinypic.com/2enn4ub.jpg) thank you, men from Little Women, for being perfect?), three-quarters Pakistani (his mother is half Anglo). Ludicrously good-looking and very vain about it; he goes to the gym to keep his body in shape, and dresses in the lastest fashion no matter what it is. Luckily, he can make almost anything look good.

Agatha: My mental image of Aggie is a narrower-faced version of Blake Lively (http://yayayanonono.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/blake-lively.jpg) -- she's leggy, with wavy dark blonde hair (not as blonde as Prudence. or Anna. or Nahia, for that matter.) and greyish-blue eyes. She'd be quite pretty if she smiled, but she doesn't do that very often. IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND NON-SMILEY PHOTOS OF BLAKE LIVELY.

Julian: A male version of Agatha -- same eyes, same basic build, same snooty-and-streamlined good looks, same hair (but cut shorter). Julian has ridiculous amounts of energy. He's twitchy.

Neither of the twins care much about what they wear (well, Julian will cheerfully let Dom tell him what to buy, but this is more a liking-Dom thing than a liking-fashion thing), but all the clothes that they own are of extremely good quality, so they tend to look pipe no matter what.

Can I ask what Nahia did after the Iron Revolution?

Political Aide to the Director of Communications and Strategy (Nacio). Following the overthrow of Wolf's government, she escapes north with a number of key military/political figures to foment insurrection in a secretive guerrilla manner. And cuts her hair short, of course.

Emma: what do Prerna and Roisin do after the Revolution? And any other details you can give about Prerna (physical appearance, brief outline of life story) would be gratefully received.

During the Iron Republic, they decide against getting an open government contract or turning state's witness against their suppliers, instead opting to up their activity into Ireland with the money they're getting from the government. (I figure the eyai republic has a pretty heavy need for spare parts, and since they're wholesale before they've been modified for human use, they turn a better profit.) After the counterrevolution, I haven't really made up my mind. I know, given the choice, Roisin would keep going on as she has been, whatever her personal feelings about the situation, and Prerna really, really wouldn't. I don't know whether or not Prerna would talk her into working with Nahia's resistance, which would be a fantastically risky proposition, or whether Prerna would do that on her own time, or whether they would both be immediately arrested and tried as handy examples of human collaborators, or whether to avoid that they'd both flee to France and open a chip shop.

Prerna ... looks like the girl I named her after. Er, sorry. She's short, about five feet or a little taller, has wavy black hair, big eyes in a mobile face, and impressively white teeth. Her family has been in Dublin for four generations on her father's side and three on her mother's. (This is her accent. (http://web.ku.edu/~idea/europe/ireland/ireland7.mp3)) She grew up in a quiet, middle-class household, and had quiet middle-class goals, though she herself was the talkative sister of three and made friends with Roisin by leaning over during a lecture and whispering, "Seriously, does he even listen to himself?" Then in '78 the Incident happened -- I'm going to have to check my notes on that one, but I think it was that Ireland wanted to cut off all trade with England, which caused a worker's strike which the students of the school of government joined in solidarity, and rioting broke out and everything went to shit -- taken by historians as the week in which Ireland tipped over into fascism. It was particularly hard on Prerna because of the xenophobic aspects of the mop up. So she left the country, and England took her in very willingly. The smuggling ring was her idea, though don't ask me how. At the time of "skin is, my" she has a good job and a nice apartment and she will probably never be able to go home again. She's been abroad long enough that under the new policies, her citizenship has lapsed. She can't imagine living outside of a city, and she can't remember a time when she didn't assume someone was watching her. And she likes long walks and sci-fi movies. :P

The short answer is basically 'yes', the long answer being... I have an Agatha-centric story planned that covers the time leading up to, during, and immediately after it. But most of the details of what actually happens have been worked out by Emma (who should post some drabbles! if nothing else! to give everyone the bare bones of it) and Ji. As ever, individual stories will only cover very particular points of view, so there will obviously be a lot of scope for people to write things set during that time; but in terms of keeping a consistent, er, canon, please let us sort the skeleton of the narrative out first.
