who needs timezones

Hello, LJ! I spent the evening at a seriously fantastic Women in Medicine dinner, from which I emerged empowered and inspired and a little tipsy and -- thanks to unwisely downing a cup of coffee at 10pm -- WIDE AWAKE.

This would be disastrous if it weren't for the fortuitous circumstances that led to my 9am lecture being cancelled. So I don't actually have to be awake before lunch tomorrow.

*twiddles thumbs*

This is the internet! Someone must be awake and bored! Talk to meeeeeeee.

Hi! Here it is 1.55pm, I have two job applications to do and four letters to post before five, but it's all soooooooo dull and I don't wanna move. In short: also bored, omg. /whine

Ew, job applications. Tomorrow I have to go and pick up my computer from the repair shop and then print a million articles so that I can stare guiltily at them all weekend.

Tell me something good that's happening in your life!

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. Hmm. Weekend after next, I am going up to Edinburgh to see my beloved. Oh, and, the train tickets website buggered up and my first-class ticket was cheaper than standard class, yaaaay.

Tell me something good happening in yours!

I'm going to a medical leadership seminar on Saturday...ooh, and I have a ticket to see the Sydney Philharmonic do Verdi's Requiem at the Opera House in a couple of months! I am excited, I've never been to a concert at the Sydney Opera House before.

Yes!

Actually, I realized that my second and fourth lines referred to the same thing, so now I have... no verses.

I love the U-Bahn
I love the Strassenbahn
I love the S-Bahn
[more!]

I could say "and I love Deutsche Bahn" but the truth is, no one loves Deutsche Bahn.

Oh my god I haven't heard that song for YEARS. We used to sing it in the round at youth theatre, as a warm-up, although we sang the boom de yadas as doo-wops. Er.

Good luck with your writing!

The moon was a ghostly galleon, tossed upon the stormy clouded seas and giving the poor rabbit a ghastly case of seasickness which could only be fixed by a gin and tonic poured over a spider squashed with a snowball.

I have just finished my exam and back on the train to Oxford. I would be more chipper if I didn't have a nasty feeling I might be resorting that bastard. The MRCP is Poo! But there was a question I couldn't have answered if I hadn't worked in country victoria and learned that sheep farmers get orf! But think! You are being paid to be somewhere. I can't wait until that applies to me. Mostly I just sit around uneasily trying not to calculate how much I am paying to be in lectures, and whether I really should be concentrating more in order to get my money's worth.

It is indeed! I just always feel, in this job, like I NEED to do creative things to keep myself from going crazy, but it also saps all the motivation and energy out of me, so by the time I get home, I just... don't have the wherewithal to write, or think, or... anything. Blargh. One more year.

HELLO.

I'm sittin' here on the internets, eating parma violets and waiting to go collect my friend from the station. So that's a fact for you, there.

What exactly are parma violets?

[identity profile] lo0o0ony-lauren.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They are an exciting sweet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parma_Violets), which most people hate! I found them in my room yesterday while attempting to clean it & so now we are getting more closely accquainted.

They taste quite...perfume-y?

Ah! We had some violet-flavoured cachous at some point but we stopped putting them on cakes because yeah, they made the icing taste like perfume.

[identity profile] lo0o0ony-lauren.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
What are cachous?

Man, I haven't made a cake in forever. I did make a cherry chocolate trifle last week, though; it was pretty badass, even though I didn't let the custard cool properly (too hungry), so it all fell to bits fairly quickly. It was the most delicious gloopy mess I've ever eaten, though, if I do say so myself.

La la la hotlinking (http://www.littlecookies.co.nz/oscommerce/images/silver%20chacous1.jpg). They're the sparkly hard things you use in cake-decorating. Usually in metallic colours.

I am calculating the percentage of time I can expect my sister to stay at home over the next four days until she has to go back to work. The number is surprisingly small, considering that she just spent two weeks in Canada with her boyfriend and boyfriend's family. *sulks*

I am also eating scrambled eggs and watching Project Runway, though, which is much more exciting and fun!

I've just found eleventybillion Trek recs lists and long fics that I really want to read, so I've bookmarked them all. Problem is that my bookmarks are sort of the equivalent of a trashcan full of things I didn't mean to throw out, if you see what I mean.

So I really need to remember to go poking in the trashcan and get the good stuff out of it.

Also I just had SUWO (concert band) rehearsal and I'm sooo tired. Hm. And I have "Kiss from a Rose" in my head thanks to SUMS yesterday. I d/l'ed all the music we're singing, so if you want anything I can email you it.

I should probably go to bed. It's getting pretty cold at my computer desk and last night I was awake until 1.40am listening to Copperbadge's Stealing Harry in podfic form (http://community.livejournal.com/podslash/279958.html). I'm getting up to the good bits, if by 'good bits' you mean "the bits where Sirius and Remus finally get their collective act together and sleep together", which of course I do. Not that the entire fic isn't a general 'good bit', but hey.

I have recovered from my brief stint of HP ficreading and am back to not reading fic at all, which is my normal state of being. I find even the best fanfic to be weirdly numbing when it comes to my personal creativity, unless I am in a very particular mood.

I have had that song in my head ALL DAY. It is STILL THERE.
