SUPANOVA '09 -- Sunday

In which I cosplay another of my favourite fictional characters!

Azula begins her day with some mild terrorism of train patrons.

Meanwhile, Ty Lee finds a pole. The results are inevitable.

Mai is introduced to a novel new weapon by a strange man, of whose colour scheme she approves. CHECK OUT THE WIG. Mai's hair is so ridiculously improbable, and for a job that was done at 1am involving painted foam and much cursing and me burning all down one finger with the glue gun...we got the stupid, stupid silhouette down.

Two Howls! Double your fun!

Our Suki & Sokka! Both awesome :)

HE BROKE MY COLLARBONE. AGAIN.

Ali with my new mug. It says VULCAN SCIENCE ACADEMY. I never plan to drink coffee out of anything else ever again. We were waiting in the queue for Karl Urban's talk, in a group of people from [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek. WOO.

HI KARL <3

Okay, okay, the story: we had to leave his talk early because the cosplay was starting (because his talk started late. grrr.) and as we were in the third row and in full costume, we were rather...obvious. We apologised, explained, were turning to leave --

KARL URBAN, OUT OF NOWHERE: Thanks for last night!
US: o_____________o
KARL URBAN: ...I'm going to get in so much trouble for that.

So. Yeah. Karl Urban implied that we had a foursome. I don't think it gets much better than that.

He also told some funny stories, gave away hats, and (by request of a certain GQMF) did his best I'M GIVING IT ALL SHE'S GOT, CAPTAIN in Scotty-voice. Which was not as terrible as John Cho's, but not as good as Chris Pine's :D

As for the cosplay -- thanks to someone's wonderful filming abilities, you can see our skit, So You Think You Can Dance Avatar!

(We won Best Skit, a fact which only marginally makes up for the fact that we missed having our picture taken with Karl Urban because we were on stage getting our prize.) Please admire my very fast arm movements due to the fact that I couldn't move my feet quickly without treading on my hakama. Please also admire me actually treading on my hakama as I stand up at the end.

HAAA okay, the fireball is actually a Calcifer from someone else's skit. I love this picture.

SOKKA + LADIEZ = OTP

NORMAL PEOPLE DO NOT BEND LIKE THAT, MEL.

Anna did such a fantastic job of Azula. The hair! the impossible hair! and the impossible shoes!

We have a running joke about how I only ever cosplay sarcastic, unimpressed, black-haired characters. Let's see: Kishuu Arashi, Esmeralda, Elphaba, Mai. Yup. Anyone got any suggestions for next year?

Though we're never going to find a trio that suits our personalities as perfectly as this one.

Faceoff!

And...cancan! (Poor Suki was hampered somewhat by her skirt.)

We decided to get off at Newtown station and walk home down King St. We got some funny looks and some delighted questions, and decided to stop off at the 7-11.

Azula experiments with buying her own goods instead of getting minions to do it for her --

-- Mai gets a slushie --

-- and Ty Lee reveals the secret behind her boundless energy!

THE END. See you all in September for Animania :D

THESE ARE THE BEST. The fringe of the wig is annoyingly split in lots of the others.

Man, I am so grateful for the high concentration of awesome women that Avatar provides <3

KARL URBAN, OUT OF NOWHERE: Thanks for last night!

I suggest (respectfully, of course) RPF about that foursome.

As for sarcastic black-haired characters to cosplay--Kyouya? You'd need a Tamaki and a Haruhi and maybe a twin...

I love these photos, and so do my kids! Also, your skit! :-D

SO AWESOME.

I said that for the last one, but it's still true!

I read the Karl Urban story on Mel's post, but it just doesn't stop being hilariously awesome. XD The costumes all look great-- sounds like you guys had a blast, maybe I should actually make an attempt to join in next time. *g*

It's been said, I know, but those costumes are amazing. :D
