briefly

Well, all work I might have done this afternoon has been eaten by my intense RaceFail09 link-hopping (er, if this particular entity hasn't stuck its head into your corner of LJ yet, start here).

Two things:

1) My immediate reaction, when links started appearing, was indeed 'tl;dr'. I'm trying to rectify that now.

2) I am so, so thankful for LJ to exposing me to this & discussions like it, because until I entered fandom I had NONE of the vocabulary or education required to understand the debates, let alone think about forming my own opinions. I can probably even pinpoint the moment when I realised I needed to check out my head and make some improvements: here. Check it! I am indignant! I blather on about my good intentions and colourblindness and wah wah privilege! I am a giddy little posterchild for Doing It Wrong.

Yeah, I'm hoping to avoid that in future.

(Thanks, Sweeney.)

If there's anything you've come across that you particularly want me to read, toss me a link. I've only been at it a couple of hours and I'm CERTAIN to have missed a whole bunch of valuable posts.

I've been using this post (http://rydra-wong.livejournal.com/146697.html) to guide me in RaceFail; I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I only started getting caught up this weekend.

Also just catching up. There have been some amazing posts, really. If I find them again I'll send them to you.

I do not think I would have handled things as well as some of the embroiled people, but maybe by reading really carefully now I can avoid doing some things wrong later.

I'd totally say 'you're welcome', but that sounds so condescending, and that's not how I mean it, at all --

If I helped, I'm glad. I think that gets at it pretty well. :)

Oh man, this thematic guide (http://logophilos.net/blather/?p=1162) is like the best map ever.

I can't remember what posts I've linked to through the whole deal ... but as I said a couple of days ago, anything by ciderpress, deepad, and bossymarmalade is probably moving and eloquent; anything by spiralsheep is probably thoughtful, well-reasoned and eloquent; anything by sparkymonster and zvi-likes-tv is probably concise, well-said, and the swift kick in the pants needed in the conversation.
