remind me never to indulge in adventure plots

My latest Merlin/Arthur fic is a hair's breadth away from 10,000 words, and...maybe half done? Probably only a third? I DO NOT KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED. It is going to end up being the longest thing I've ever written.

I will finish it before we leave. I WILL. It is keeping me sane in between bouts of panicking about Europe.

Speaking of: travel-shopping tomorrow. I need LUGGAGE and also WALKING BOOTS.

... you're going to make me watch Merlin just so I can read your fic, aren't you. Damn you writing in fandoms I don't know the cannon of.

This is my completely unrepentant face, Fry :D

Um, wow. I know I haven't ever commented on your journal before (Hi!) but I've been reading through your fics for the past couple of weeks and decided to watch Merlin just because you were excited about it.

...and now I'm addicted. And the fact that you're writing epic adventure fic during HELL WEEK (finals) is making this much less hellacious for me.

In other words, I am filled with glee.

Oh, thank you! I'm glad the prospect of this fic being finished is helping through a stressful week; it's doing exactly the same for me!

I can imagine. Good luck with the European odyssey!

WHAT IS THAT. THAT IS NOT HELPFUL :P

Debi might be organising some MilliBrit stuff before & around NYE, are you still going to be able to get to London?

[identity profile] rowanberries.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
HEEEE.

I'm damn well going to try - even if I just turn up and ring round everybody I know demanding meetups. Are you staying with [livejournal.com profile] apiphile?

No, we're staying in a flat in Holborn that belongs to my aunt!

[identity profile] rowanberries.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Aha, comfort!

Well, I'll still be sure to get hold of you at some point - hopefully in enough time to make sure I'm not working, cause work < Britcon.

I am a new reader of your journal (through Merlin :)), and I'd just like to add a squee for long long and awesome Arthur/Merlin fics from you!

Hello! Your squee is much appreciated :)

you are like the second person on my flist who's been like "omg longest thing i've ever written!" (non-nano-related), and then there's me who is also working on my longest thing i've ever written, and it is kind of like this strange plague. a strange plague of long fics! (i can get behind this plague.)

HEY RAT STEW WHAT

Ooh, what is the long thing that you're writing?

I swear the best moment in that episode, apart from all the moments when Merlin and Arthur were arguing about who should be allowed to die for the other one, was Merlin's face going from EW THIS TASTES FOUL to HAHAHA LET'S TRICK MORGANA.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
it's the one where edmund and susan go to calormen to collect magic, and edmund has jadis PTSD. it began as my excuse to write ed/su and ed/jadis, but now it's technically gen and mostly my excuse to worldbuild calormen (magical marketplace! storytelling traditions!). i started this fic, um, IN THE SUMMER. (i'm sloooow.)

my favorite moment is arthur pushing his penis spoon into merlin's mouth. merlin and arthur's TRUE LOVE BRINGING THE UNICORN BACK TO LIFE is a close second.

Gear

When I was in Europe, I used the Osprey Meridian (http://www.ospreypacks.com/Packs/MeridianSeries/Meridian2260L/) luggage - a backpack that snaps onto a lightweight main compartment that can either be wheeled or worn as a back-pack. Apart, they both fit on as carry-on overhead luggage, too. I also used a bunch of Eagle Creek (http://www.eaglecreek.com/accessories/packing_cubes/) packs and folders inside to segregate all my clothes. Oh, and a roll-up compression sack (http://www.eaglecreek.com/accessories/compression_bags/) for my dirty clothes. As for shoes, I adore my go-anywhere Columbia (http://www.columbia.com/Product/5/Footwear/52080/Omni-TechCollection/9373/Packus-Ridge-Omni-Tech.aspx?viewAll=False) boots.

Here ends my product placement. Have fun in Europe!

Oooh, thank you. I bought a Caribee pack today that sounds exactly like what you described, and a pair of good boots. Those compression sacks seem like an excellent idea, I might look out for some tomorrow.
