Gngmmmmfhfhhhhhhrngle? What's that? I have class again? You mean I'm not enrolled in the Bachelor of Medical Revue (as one of the directors so aptly put it yesterday) but you want me to learn more medicine?

The compulsion to curl up in a tight ball somewhere with my Murakami novel is extreme, but I'm going to go and make some blackcurrant tea and then take notes on anaemia. I'm not sure how I feel about this block, but we do get five straight weeks at hospital, which is a nice change, and I think 'thalassaemia' is my favourite disease-name so far.

And I don't know how many haematologists you will come across in your life, but they get REALLY EXCITED ABOUT BLOOD. Though the lecturer today also spent a solid ten minutes talking about Monet and Prometheus in order to make some impressively elaborate metaphors about, well, blood*, so maybe things will stay interesting.

*Oh man. This is the kind of lecturer I can see myself becoming. 'BLAH BLAH MEDICINE BLAH BEWILDERING TANGENT ABOUT SHAKESPEARE BLAH. Now write me an essay about whether Hamlet was mad or not, quoting both the play and the DSM-IV!** Now go away and leave me alone in my beautifully furnished office with my very expensive coffee-maker!'

**WHY DOESN'T ANYONE EVER GIVE ME ASSIGNMENTS LIKE THIS ONE. WHYYYYY.

Up until now I hadn't realised how badly I need to meet many many haematologists, but DAMN. NOW I DO.

*gets really excited about blood*

Sadly their interest seems more along the lines of will-push-you-into-chair-and-then-ramble-excitedly-about-cytokine-receptors-for-an-hour than any sort of macroscopic aesthetic appreciation :D

I find excited enthusiasm infectious and I like learning things! Also, blood.

I love diagnosing fictional characters! Esp when you discover one that fits the criteria for PTSD due to childhood trauma very neatly who was in fact seriously traumatized at the age of seven.
