three things

1) World Youth Day is upon us. How do I know this? I know this because Womens College has been INVADED BY NUNS. I came down to breakfast and there were something like 50 American nuns lining up for juice and toast, and for a moment I thought I might have been hallucinating. But no! Nuns. Very...nun-looking nuns. With different coloured wimples and things to show what sisterhood they're from. Fascinating! Especially since I had the Bare soundtrack stuck in my head and was wandering around the dining hall mumbling there's a bender among us, there's pink in our flock and other completely inappropriate things.

2) I am rather surprised at the strength of my hatred for Katy Perry's song 'I Kissed A Girl'. I just. Wow. I know it's supposed to be a fun song and the lyrics are more about exploring personal preference than any kind of homophobia, but something about the combination of the SEX SEX BLATANT SEX THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS WE BISEXUALS ARE HERE SOLELY FOR YOUR PERSONAL TITILLATION of the music video and the deliberate coyness -- it's not what good girls do -- just really, really rub me the wrong way. I'll be over here with Jill Sobule's song of the same name, thanks.

3) Aria is disgustingly speedy and talented and has ALREADY written an amazing alt!Doctor/Rose fic that covers pretty much all of my important opinions about that pairing, which means that now I don't have to write one. WHOO. East of the Sun & West of the Moon -- Doctor Who -- This is the closest they'll ever come to the sky again, and the closest they'll ever come to each other, and he's sorry they know it.

Are they here for the long haul? The proper WYD weekend isn't for another two weeks, right?

they're here for three to four weeks, yes :) helping the organisers, or some such.

How do you plan for a bank college full of nuns?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I loathe it, too.

*cough* I was wondering if I could get the Bare soundtrack off you. I've only got "You & I" and I've really been wanting to hear the rest of it.

I'LL SEE WHAT I CAN DO. Uploading is tricky because of my college firewall, but I have...sources. I keep meaning to make a heartfelt pimping post but I can never quite gather my coherency or whittle down the soundtrack to a handful of representative songs, because I love all of them SO MUCH.

I recommend listening to it all the way through when you have nothing else to do, eg. on a long bus trip. It deserves proper attention. Though if you are the type to get emotional at certain times of the month, timing it to coincide with that is, er, unwise (WELL DONE FAHYE).

we can't upload from college?

We can, but nothing huge. And I'd rather get someone to upload a large zip file than have to upload every song individually.

huh, whaddya know. guess i never tried uploading anything huge...

Re. #2, I have this ridiculously complicated relationship with it in that I find the song so catchy but absolutely loathe it; the lyrics, everything is stands for and the fact that Katy Perry is making money off the backs of nasty gay stereotypes (her other song "Ur So Gay" UGH and the album title is "One of the Boys" UGH UGH) as well as again posing lesbians as pure male titillation. So I basically end up dancing to it when going clubbing and simultaneously telling everyone around me how revolting the song is and how much I hate it. I've told a lot of people, though, so I feel like I'm doing my part.

If it makes you feel any better, [Unknown site tag] is full to the brim with sexist, troglodytic members who wouldn't know something like homophobia if it bit them on the ass, but the vast majority of the young women who comment there hate the song for the same reasons you and I have mentioned, so we're hardly the only ones who see its problems and detest it.
