schoolgirls with guns!
Judging a competition at the rink this afternoon, which will be FREEZING COLD, oh joy, but at least I'm going out to dinner with Q afterwards.

I am not sure how many of you have ever seen D.E.B.S. -- it is a truly, truly ridiculous film about a LESBIAN SUPERVILLAIN who falls in love with a TEENAGE SUPERSPY and, um, it's basically a fluffy love story wrapped up in a funny script and bouncy music and a plot that nobody really expects you to care about. It's awesome. AWESOME.
Anyway: my gift to you, flist, is this clip which never, ever fails to cheer me up.
(This fanvid is fun, too. IT HAS OUTMAKING.)

Well. 'Action'. If by 'action' you mean 'rolling around sexily on the floor and pointing amusingly large guns at each other'.

If you are sad, you should also watch Elf. There is never not an appropriate time for that movie, even if it is technically about Christmas.

I...have never seen Elf. I think I saw a trailer once and it made me want to claw out my eyes.

I. . .remember having similar feelings about the trailer, TBH. But if you ever get a chance to actually sit down with a copy, it is sweet and naive and oddly romantic. Will Ferrell is not as obnoxious as he could be.

See...naive and sweet and romantic only works for me if I am in a very rare sentimental mood, or if the movie also features things like pretty lesbians* or things being blown up. I AM KIND OF A GUY.
*Granted, someone needs to sit Jordana Brewster down and give her some sandwiches, but the girl who plays Amy is GORGEOUS.

Aww, I see. I am very fussy about my movies being pure and complete escapism - I don't want a film to make me think about politics or history or war, I just want to see some pretty people a) making out, b) blowing things up, or c) being adorable. Over time, I have come to see this as a character FEATURE, rather than a character flaw.

By and large I love escapism in films too, but I am generally only able to swallow sentiment if it comes covered in large doses of snark or twistiness or, um, dance numbers. Somehow I can put up with any amount of sentiment if it's part of a musical.
Oh, I would too, but I would still want to feed her sandwiches.

See, I respect that. I think calling it sentiment is perhaps the wrong term - it implies a wistful sense of whimsy that I don't tend to experience when I watch films. I rarely, for instance, enjoy traditional romantic comedies unless they are phenomenally done, because they play to feelings I honestly do not have. Basically, I enjoy movies that make me capslock. These movies tend to have music, hot chicks, explosions, or kissing in them? But not always.

:O!

I mean, it's not a good film, but it's not trying to be. It's trying to be fun and sexy and ridiculous and it succeeds admirably.
