the artistic spirit

I have red wine. I have dark chocolate.

One of my fics is going down.

What's that? Trauma clinic at 8:30am tomorrow? Er. Certainly not.

Today's XKCD is pretty much every conversation my friends and I ever had during undergrad :D Half of us were psychologists, the other half were physicists. And now a couple of us are -- applied biologists, I suppose?

Actually, I choose to believe that doctors are floating somewhere above that scale and occasionally making a snide comment about how nice it is to earn so much money.

*ducks*

THE ONLY TIMES I EVER WRITE PORN ARE WHEN I'M DRUNK. SO LET'S HOPE SO.

But man, this fic does not want to become porn. Do you have any tips?

[identity profile] myrafur.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmmmm.......... I could gmail you a song?

It's, ...yeah. Nngh.

That'd be very handy!

I sent two.

Lemme know how they ...work.

Iiiiiinteresting. That first one is...certainly something.

There should be something similar for arts/humanities, with philosophy being all the way on the right hand side, then literature, history, political science, etc. Obviously law will also float somewhere above and make snide remarks about earning money.

Champagne, my dear?

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't mind if I do. It goes perfectly with wine and cheese XD

(funny you mention that, because I have champagne chilling in my fridge for next weekend.)

Ha. This is where it becomes clear that you are ACTUALLY a lawyer and I am mortgaging my presumed money-earning future in the interest of acquiring red wine in the present.

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't have a liking for wine and cheese while studying law, you rapidly learn to acquire it because practically every legal function will have it ^^;;;

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love wine and cheese! I just don't have champagne in my fridge.

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
good grief, I tremble to think of the snide things you're saying about well-meaning people who do historical and literary studies of early legal works...

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Not snide, affectionate. In the "I remember when we had to do that in university" kind of way :P

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
In the "I remember when we had to do that in university" kind of way :P

now *those* people, those people we sneer at. And/or glare at for their hideous tendancy to hide and/or deface books of Anglo-Saxon law, not realising that said books are a) worth up to 800 dollars in some cases and b) vitally important for vitally important things like medieval studies theses.

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I'd say we'd have a tendency to photocopy said books because writing annotated notes into originals leaves it open for other students to read and use your notes. Also considering how much we fork out for brick-sized textbooks we certainly appreciate how expensive books are.

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Spelling correction noted ;)

And clearly, your law students were more conscientious than those at the USyd Law School. And/or their competitive drive doesn't stoop to hiding any books which may be useful to their fellows, even in boring history of law subjects, as it does at USyd.

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
and by 'deface' I mean 'tear entire pages out of'.

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
In which case those are the law students we tended to hunt down because ripping pages out of books so that nobody else can use them was the ultimate NO.

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently it's considered the smart game by large sectors of the Law School here...

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd think that in this day and age where you can download most journal articles it's pretty pointless.

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
well, i can't download Lieberman's Anglo-Saxon Law Codes, and some shitead has hidden them. *glares*

[identity profile] -leareth.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck finding it. That, or try UNSW.

[identity profile] highlyeccentric.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Macquarie Uni came through with an interlibrary-loan :) happy news.

Sadly, there is no way that access to this book will ever improve my earning potential.

I am a sociologist, if I'm on that scale at all.

And I hate you all. :P
