Anselm Kiefer FTW! Have you been to the AGNSW yet? They have quite a few of his pieces there.

No! I saw a big exhibition of his at one of the Smithsonian galleries in 2006 and it made a huge impression on me, but I haven't seen anything of his since.

It's not an exhibition, but there are (if I remember correctly) two paintings and an installation by him at the gallery. There was also a video installation last time I went, which might be gone now - it was about his studio in France. He has such a fascinating technique, which was one reason why we studied him in year 11 art.

Standing in front of one of his works - even just the sheer size and weight of it - definitely leaves an impression.
