2 x Naruto AMVs
This is largely for the benefit of
deutscheami, but is also aimed to seduce
ariastar and to generally show off a little bit of why this series has eaten my head of late.
These AMVs are both from before the Shippuuden series (read: before the plots accelerated and everyone grew up and things got really cool) but they manage to capture the atmosphere of the early series fantastically. And they're both fast and general enough that I really, really doubt you need to worry about being spoilered for plot, especially from a position of minimal knowledge. This is purely an OOH SHINY kind of thing.
(If you only want to download one to get a feel for the series...I'd recommend Skies on Fire, probably. But they're BOTH GREAT, and both way way way better than anything I could ever hope to produce in the fanvid medium.)
Goodbye -- by Toushi
I don't even want to think about how much effort went into making this vid -- it's so sharp and the clips go by so fast, but it's a brilliant showpiece of just how amazing the fight animation is. You could be forgiven for thinking that nothing whatsoever takes place in the show except the fighting, but occasionally it slows down just enough to give you glimpses of character and worldbuilding. There are some fantaaaaastic meta-ish moments -- you think you see the world, but you see nothing -- and all in all it's a pretty breathless ride.
(Heidi: this is a very Chuunin-exam-centric vid, so you'll probably recognise a lot of the fights :D)
Skies on Fire -- by Teo
Look, I have no clue what language this song is in, but nonetheless I find it inherently awesome, much like Dragostea Din Tei. I love the energy in this vid, the hilarious lip-synchs, the timing of the effects, and the way it pretty much yells MY SHINY, LET ME SHOW YOU IT. Less fighting! More grinning! This vid makes me dance in my chair a lot, and although you can't really pick them unless you know the show it also has some very clever juxtapositions. (And a shot of Shikamaru, DARLING OF MY HEART (STAR OF THIS POST'S ICON), kicking ass with a mesh shirt and a handful of shuriken.)
(Heidi: This does contain some spoilers for post-exams stuff, but they go by so fast/are so devoid of context that I don't think it'll matter.)
I have two more pimp-worthy Naruto vids but one of them is sheer, sheer crack and only makes sense if you know a bit about the characters, and the other is heartbreakingly well-put-together angsty Sasuke/Naruto which I may post later, but ONLY WHEN HEIDI HAS SEEN UP TO A PARTICULAR POINT.
If anyone else from the fandom wants to pimp me some more vids (especially any using Shippuuden footage, because I have NONE) then that would be appreciated also :)

But clearly I'm a little slow because: what juxtapositions? D:
sheer, sheer crack: PUT YOUR HAND DOWN MY PANTS AND I'LL BET YOU'LL FEEL NUTS.
well-put-together angsty Sasuke/Naruto: *bursts into tears on reflex*

Oh, it's nothing huge, just things like the inclusion of Tsunade and Jiraiya at the very beginning, the way it plays with the three different Sharingan characters and uses the eye for transitions, Hinata throwing a punch overlaid onto Naruto throwing one too (directly after she quotes his catchphrase a self-motivator). And that's just in the first minute, I could probably find more.
I am currently trying to decide if my favourite shot is:
a) the Sasuke-Naruto fistbump JUST before the character profiles start
b) Sasuke's eyes widening/Itachi's eyes overlaid on it
c) the shot of Orochimaru and Itachi turning in synch at 2:33
All it needs to be utterly perfect is hospital roof fight footage. Although there will never be a more perfect backing music for Sasuke's hands moving across the ground than DUH DUH DUH-DUH-DUH (CAN'T TOUCH THIS).

OOPS. Sorry, sorry. Er. Go reread Listening Sky, at least it has outmaking.

And now I need to figure out how to get my hands on the anime, because SHINY-- that first vid is amazing and my head sort of hurts thinking about how much work it was.

In case you missed the madness the first time around.
