art is a very loose term

Whyyyyyyy do I watch anime, why why why. 220 IS NOT A SANE NUMBER OF EPISODES FOR ANY SERIES TO HAVE. LET ALONE ONE THAT IS STILL GOING.

*weeps*

However, [livejournal.com profile] ryokophoenix and I have agreed that Naruto is like SG:A in that it has -- kind of undeservedly -- a huge, amazingly talented, and totally batshit fandom, mostly comprised of slashers.

Anyway, Mel? That thing we said we'd draw if either of us had even a scrap of artistic talent?

...I drew it.

PLEASE BE WARNED: I CANNOT DRAW. AT ALL. This was completed in fifteen minutes with a dodgy pacer on a piece of scrap paper (moi, je suis vraimente une artiste) and I have no excuse to offer except for the fact that apparently anime makes me crazy. Don't worry, you're not expected to find any sense in it WHATSOEVER unless you're, um, one of the two Naruto fans on my flist.

I'm ambivalent to Naruto as a series -- I only watched enough to get to know characters I was cosplaying or making costumes for, and never got hooked -- but the ambivalence turns to snarky dislike due to the fact that Naruto has gotten to the stage that my friends and I in Malaysia will go out to a mall and see teenaged boy-brats swaggering around trying to look cool and wearing the friggin' Leaf headband around his arm. That's on top of all the Narutards at conventions who usually have just the headband and either a bad character costume or a bad original costume to say "I AM A RANDOM NINJA FROM [INSERT CLAN HERE]." My friends cosplayed Naruto in Asia back in 2001/2 before it got big in the west; it's now half a decade later LET IT END NOW PLEASE.

You are such an elitist ho, my dear <3 Not that I can talk; I expect I'd be just as snarky if all the hysteria and crapitude was taking place under my nose or for something that I currently care about.

And it's true that I doubt I'd have gotten hooked on my own. It helps enormously to have someone dragging you forcibly past the crap and then adding fandom commentary to the important episodes.
