MUSICALS

I went and saw Enchanted today. <3333! I want to keep James Marsden in my house and feed him cookies and pull him out to be hilarious whenever I get bored.

I also spent last night watching my Andrew Lloyd Webber celebration concert on DVD (there is nothing in this WORLD sexier than Antonio Banderas singing the Phantom. and it also has Michael Ball singing Gethsemane and Glenn Close singing Sunset Boulevard songs and dsjhkdHsasadhkc) so now I desire an expansion of my already-vast musical soundtracks collection!

If you have ANY other musical soundtracks, could you upload them for me? You can request any off my own list in return.

(I might also be persuaded to upload anything from my own post in return for drabbles and/or icons. I am an equal-opportunity material whore.)

~

PARTICULARLY WANTING:

Cats (especially if anyone has the soundtrack of the Broadway one that's available on DVD - with Elaine Page? I desire that like a mad thing, having only highlights from the Australian version)
Chess
Chicago (stage version)
Evita
Fame
High School Musical II (WHAT)
The King & I
The Lion King
Mamma Mia
Phantom of the Opera (any stage version; preferably one with Anthony Warlow as the Phantom)

I can offer Cats in German, English and Japanese, Evita (the movie version) and PotO in the 1987 version which apparently does not have Anthony Warlow as the Phantom. Also Little Women. And some random other stuff in German, French or Japanese.
If you want?

Oh, wow! I would love Little Women, Evita, and anything in French that you can give me.

[identity profile] oloriel.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I have tried to upload them three times now and my connection has always randomly stopped in the middle so I'll just try again tomorrow. Sorry 'bout the delay.

Searching for the files reminded me that I also have The Scarlet Pimpernel (if you want foppy anti-revolution fluff/angst/drama) and Forbidden Broadway (if you want parody), though.
ext_21673: ([dw] scatter them across time and space)

Absolutely! Thanks.

Sooo.
You're already getting the French Les Mis and my French PotO has disappeared, so all I can offer that way is some French Cats (http://www.sendspace.com/file/uupzik).

Otherwise:
Evita (http://www.sendspace.com/file/bmi5d7)
Little Women (http://www.sendspace.com/file/klvh9n)
The Scarlet Pimpernel (http://www.sendspace.com/file/7gvwuo)
Forbidden Broadway (http://www.sendspace.com/file/89dosg)

And for some extra crack, have Star Wars: The Musical (http://www.sendspace.com/file/nzp2q4) if you want.

Could I beg for Fiddler on the Roof, Hair, My Fair Lady, Secret Garden and/or West Side Story in return? *puppy eyes*

I am not here to helpfully help you along with musical soundtracks, for I have none that you do not possess. But rather: I must point out that though you and I agree on few things musically, at least we agree on THE SECRET GARDEN, which in addition to being AWESOME and less famous than it deserves, was actually the first compact disc I ever purchased. When I was eleven years old.

Also, the recent revival of Jesus Christ Superstar blows my mind. It is the perfect mixture of so camp it's practically drag, so cheesy it's almost unwatchable, so watchable that it's hypnotic, and still the greatest story ever told! My sister and I have seen the DVD about seven times, and we're still laughing.

You mean...this one? (http://fahye.livejournal.com/414955.html) I LOVE IT. Hypnotic is the right word.

For myself, I grew up with Les Mis, so I doubt that anyone will ever be able to convince me that it isn't the greatest musical ever written. Though JC Superstar certainly comes close.

[identity profile] private-meek.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
YES. They showed it on public television where I live, a couple of years ago. My sister and I VHSed it because we had seen Tony Vincent as Judas on the Tony Awards, because she is the type of person who makes other people watch the Tony Awards, and we were astonished, nay, our minds were MELTED to discover that not only was there a more flamboyantly gay Judas than Tony Vincent, but additionally that you could make a musical in every respect so flamboyantly gay but have it be about Jesus and they'd still show it during prime-time in Texas. I think there is a lesson to be learned there.

So, um, yes. I sort of love it too.

I would love to see Tony Vincent as Judas! All I know about him is that...he has a cute smile.

I can rip you The Lion King when you get here (totally forgot last time). Also Phantom Original Broadway Production with Michael Crawford. And man, I totally had, like, /every/ Lloyd Weber musical on CD back in Perth and didn't bring it T_T

I for def have the King & I but need to find a suitable location to upload it so as to avoid getting extremely sued. I also have A Little Night Music, which no one has ever heard of, but is my favorite Sondheim thing because it features the most perfect lyric ever written:

with riotous laughter we quietly suffer
the season in town which is reason enough for
[a weekend in the country la la la]

and because it is all waltzes. This I already have online. http://www.box.net/shared/65j6rigzem

I have Cats (at least I'm pretty sure) as a soundtrack, and most CERTAINLY have it as a DVD. Uploading...no. But, I can burn the soundtrack if I still have it.

For the DVD, need a DVD burner and that we don't have anymore.

Also?

EEEEE, Enchanted! I saw that, too. I keep meaning to write about it. It, and the Golden Compass.

Oh, I have the DVD. I just want the songs in my iTunes :)

[identity profile] polaris-starz.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
I have... one song from Chess. And I have John Barrowman singing assorted Broadway tunes.

OH WAIT. I think I do have the Broadway Lion King around somewhere. It might take some finding, but I saw it in Seattle a few years back and they were selling the CD.

I think I have that song, and also quite a lot of John Barrowman.

[identity profile] polaris-starz.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
I got his new album today. I would quite gladly listen to that man sing for the rest of my life. And then he has to go and be completely adorable and sweet to boot, and it's just not fair.

I love my Treasure Planet icon! I heart that movie so much.

Should hit your inbox in the next 15 or so. You may have to change the "artist" listing in iTunes back to what it's listed as on the soundtrack - I changed them all to a blanket HSM2 so that they'd line up in the same folder and archive properly.
ext_21673: ([potc] under the windings of the sea)

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I do that with a lot of film/musical soundtracks as well! I may just leave it as HSM2.
skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (teach me to hear mermaids)

[personal profile] skygiants 2008-01-22 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think everything else I have someone has offered already, but I have Notre-Dame de Paris in two versions, which is in French and fabulous, if you would like.
skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (teach me to hear mermaids)

[personal profile] skygiants 2008-01-26 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Here is the Highlights version, which doesn't have all the songs, but does have the original singers, the vast majority of whom I prefer - this launched a lot of their careers, and they totally deserve it. Luck Mervil and Julie Zenatti especially are . . . pretty incredible.
skygiants: a figure in white and a figure in red stand in a courtyard in front of a looming cathedral (cour des miracles)

And here is the complete live recording. 53 songs of AWESOME.

Well, these are the musicals I have on cd within leaning distance of this chair:

Jesus Christ Superstar: Orlando Pops Orchestra, 'Showstoppers', Prague live, Prague highlights (studio), original Tokyo cast
Chess in Concert (full recording)
Jekyll & Hyde
Rent
Phantom of the Opera (Original Canadian Cast highlights)
A Little Night Music (Royal National Theatre)
an ALW cd in German called 'Welterfolge' with various songs of his
Urinetown
The Fix
some Australian stuff I'm sure you have

Various Michael Ball solos if you're a fan? And Peter Karrie and Anthony Warlow and and and. A billion others, plus bootlegs. I probably have at least 2 other versions of Chess alone bouncing around if I dig. I am a dork. I'll just do the Chess since you specifically mentioned that, but if anything else appeals than just ask...

[identity profile] ulkis.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
:de-lurking because talking about musicals is fun: I wandered over here from [livejournal.com profile] mercurial_wit a little while ago.

I could upload the French Les Mis cast (not the concept album) and since I see someone already offered up Notre-Dame de Paris (the guy who plays Gringoire has the most beautiful voice ever), I offer up instead Romeo et Juliette. Not as good as Notre Dame, imho, but still quite catchy.
ext_21673: ([potc] under the windings of the sea)

[identity profile] fahye.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I would love both Les Mis and Romeo et Juliette! Thank you.

[identity profile] ulkis.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Here's Romeo et Juliette (and the track titles and lyrics (http://libretto.musicals.ru/text.php?textid=291&language=1):

And here's Les Mis (1991 Paris Cast):

(Fun fact: The actor who plays Marius is the same guy who plays Judas in the 2000 JCS revival.)

Enjoy!

Ohhhhh God. *opens musicals folder*

WANT:
Bat Boy
Hairspray
High School Musical
Jekyll & Hyde
Pippin
The Secret Garden
Sweeney Todd (if OBC; I have the 2005 revival)

HAVE:
Company (OBC) - SO GOOD I WAS IN IT AND IT'S SONDHEIM, THE END.
Company (2006 Revival)
Darling of the Day - Cute & amusing, but more for the supporting cast than the leads.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - HILARIOUS.
The Drowsy Chaperone - Wikipedia explains the hilarity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Drowsy_Chaperone) better than I ever could.
Elegies - By William Finn, composer of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Falsettoland - William Finn. (Third in a trilogy.)
The Full Monty - Fabulous in all kinds of ways.
Grey Gardens (Original Off-Broadway Cast) - All kinds of awesome.
Guys and Dolls (1992 Broadway Revival)
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change - Oh. My. God. Hilarity and wonderfulness.
A Little Princess (Demo) - Pretty!
In Trousers - William Finn. (First in a trilogy.)
Kiss Me, Kate (1999 Revival) - Brush up your Shakespeare! Need I say more?
The Last Five Years - Musicals/marriage = OTP.
The Light in the Piazza - Again. Famous. Beautiful music.
Let My People Come - A musical about sex! *beams*
The Little Mermaid (Demo) - *flails* *madly*
Little Women - Possibly I am a bit sentimental.
The Magic Man - Magicians and music!
March of the Falsettos - William Finn. (Second in a trilogy.)
Martin Guerre (Original London Cast) - I haven't had time to listen to much of this, but what I've heard is LOVELY.
Miss Saigon (OBC) - Er, one of the most famous musicals ever?
The Music Man (2000 Revival) - Okay, I don't care if this show can be cheesy as hell and any recorded Marian has too much vibrato, I LOVE IT.
My Fair Lady (OBC) - In case you're a Julie Andrews aficionado. :)
The Mystery of Edwin Drood - Based on an unfinished Dickens novel, the audience gets to vote on whodunnit! \o/
Prettybelle - Sort of what would happen if you made a musical about Blanche DuBois. Though nothing compares to Tennessee Williams.
Smile (Demo) - Funny musical about a beauty contest!
Spring Awakening - All the rage nowadays for many good reasons.
The Stripper - A lot of Rocky Horror people worked on this show (http://www.rockymusic.org/album/stripper.php).
Thoroughly Modern Millie (OBC) - Absolutely darling.
Tommy (OBC) - THE WHO. BROADWAY!
Violet - Has an actual plot! Just ask Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violet_%28musical%29).
Weird Romance - Actually two musicals in one (http://theater2.nytimes.com/mem/theater/treview.html?_r=1&res=9E0CE3D71230F930A15755C0A964958260&oref=slogin), and mysteriously not on Wikipedia.

Uhhhh, pick which ones you want? I will be happy to e-mail you musical love. Also the new recording of Bare once I finally rip the CDs.
