I am actually starting to suspect that the best way to manage a clean line at the waist will be to wear a real cincher like your black one over the blouse and skirts, and then build the jade-and-gold one so that it can go over THAT. Because the elasticated waist gives a bit of bulk that will be difficult to smooth out using just satin and interfacing.
QU: how much are people willing to pay for wigs? Good ones obviously aren't cheap -- there's one here (http://cyperous.com/fcw.html) that I'm looking at for Esmeralda but with currency exchange it's around AU$73 before shipping.

PRETTY! Our sewing parties never actually turned anything out, just a lot of half-done stuff, some food that we got distracted and decided to make in the kitchen, and a couple of movies under our belts. So I am very impressed.
