things today

#1 - I am sick of staring at pictures of dissected bodies like you wouldn't believe, and I am waging war on the muscles of the forearm, but anatomy study seems to be going okay.

#2 - I started Rome, which I have had sitting around since approximately forever! Brutus' accent is the funniest thing in the world (it's so very very British Public Schoolboy) and James Purefoy is somehow even hotter as Mark Antony than he was as the Black Prince, but my heart belongs to Vorenus and Pullo and their hilarious domestic badassery. (Apparently a movie exists where Kevin McKidd and James Purefoy play lovers? Considering that I am already having idle aesthetic daydreams about how hot Antony/Vorenus would be, I think I should hunt it down.)

#3 - This article on 'Atheists and Anger' is pretty much everything I've ever wanted to say on the matter, said eloquently and with pictures.

#4 - One of my cousins in England had a son a few months ago, and we've just been sent some photographs.

Mum: So there's Jo and her young man, and there's little Sam Dean.
Me: I'm sorry, what's his name?
Mum: Samuel Dean?
Me: ...*suppresses laughter*

Clearly one day he will grow up and fight evil.

That would be Bedrooms and Hallways (also starring Tom Hollander and Jennifer Ehle), and it's one of my favourite comedies. Definitely check it out.

# 3 was a very interesting read.

It made me very glad to live where I do -- Anglicans are a fairly relaxed bunch, on the whole, and though Christianity as the source of mainstream political morality is getting closer to American standards, we're certainly not there yet. Anyone suggesting that Australia is 'one nation under God' would be laughed down summarily.

Oh, Fahye. Thanks for linking that blog post. It's very difficult for me to discuss my angry atheism without feeling guilty about it, and this woman has done it for me, with much more grace than I can usually muster.

#1 I knew it would get to you someday. *pats* Although, this reminds me that I need to track down the dimensions of a kestrel's wing. Freaking Medusa. I swear, only I would stay up at night pondering how wings would ACTUALLY be attached to a human body.

#2Ah, yes. James Puresex.

So. Damn. Hot.

#3 Word. I read it on an atheist comm somewhere, and haven't linked, but just...yes.

And point #4! Just. *gigglefits*

You know the part where The Boy is Sam and his best friend is Jared and their other best friend is John and I'm Madison and my (truly obnoxious) stepmother is Jo? Yes. Yes, Sam Dean may beat that.

I think you would win on sheer weight of numbers if it weren't for the fact that my cousin's name is Jo :D

I am quite resigned to never having a character with my name show up in a TV series. It does pop up in books, occasionally.

I took me a while to get on the Anthony/Vorenus train; but yes. and yes. AND YES.

OMG VORENUS+PULLO BFFDOM. YAAAAAY.

Okay, that article is... special, in the self-contradictory, hypocritical, huge-giant-sweeping-generalisations-occasionally-based-on-single-incidences way. I mean, it also has some very good and very valid points, but a lot of it is really quite "...Uh."-inducing. And I'm not even a subscriber to - or even particularly supportive of - any form of coherent religious belief, organised or otherwise.

ROOOME *waves hands* The thing is, I know bugger all about Roman history, so apart from the major events all of this is totally suspense-filled and exciting :D

Hmm. Can you expand on that? I agree that it sometimes mentions specifics, but I think it also makes the point that it's perfectly all right to get angry about specifics.
