bad mood day
It's almost enough to make me wish there were puddles outside and that I owned a pair of gumboots that I could slip on and run outside and leap around making (admittedly nasal) roaring noises and BIG ANGRY SPLASHES. (Almost enough. I think my extreme dislike of getting wet would kick in sooner or later.)
Uuugh. My cold shows no signs of getting better and I feel like such a grouch because I'd kind of like to be doing NaNoWriMo or working out my Yuletide fic or plotting RP stuff -- I haven't been creative in way too long -- and instead I'm sniffling miserably and trying to study anatomy and psychophysics with a brain that refuses to work.
This grouchiness is either causing or is fed by my reactions to fannish stuff. Hmph. Case in point: SPN. I really dislike Ruby. I wanted to like her! I did! But she seems to be composed of nothing but over-done attitude and lines that are supposed to sound ambiguous and tough but just sound silly. I want Bela back. Hell, I want the circle-demon from 'Sin City' back, at least she was likable and had a layered personality. NOTE, WRITERS: ambiguity as to motives is not the same thing as character complexity.
In further heartlessness, I couldn't stand this 'Torchwood Babiez' cartoon (I'm linking because I think a lot of you WILL like it; it's quite funny and the art is well done). It's just. I have a very strong aversion to things that try very hard to be cute, mostly because 'cute' doesn't actually register with me as a positive impression. I just don't get it. I have strong urges to burn most greeting cards, especially the ones for new babies and any Valentines day cards that either attempt soppy poetry or have teddy bears anywhere on them.
Bah, humbug, etc.
:(
ETA: I feel I should add in light of the above that I am not actually anti-babies in any way, and who knows, I may even have some myself one day, but if that ever occurs: you should all keep in mind that anyone buying me anything featuring pictures of storks, or anything that even remotely approaches powder pink, will be kicked off my Christmas card list faster than they can say 'bundle of joy'.

And I hear you on the cheesy greeting cards.

Hahaha. I suppose I would accept pink and sparkly if it was intended ironically.

I'm with you on Ruby. And not because she has a vagina (which seems to be the common accusation) but because SPN doesn't tend to write villains very well, and they depend a lot on their actors to try to deliver the cheesy lines believably. And I just don't think the actress playing Ruby does that, so we're left with your basic moustache-twirling, which is annoying. (Though I'm really psyched--heh heh--about the potential of that storyline for Sam.)
Bela, OTOH, is a good combination of intriguing character with some potential for depth, and an actress who seems to be able to pull it off (so far). So I'm REALLY excited about her. Also Dean/her. Because. HOT.
