re: Doctor Who finale
That doesn't really deserve meta, so I'm not going to give it much. IT WAS CRACK. CRAAAAAACK. PURE CRACK. But so was the Torchwood S1 finale, which I managed to enjoy as soon as I discarded all of my expectations and let the hilarity take over, so whatever.
The main point of that episode, I think, was to reiterate that Martha > everyone in the world ever. (I hope she and the random paediatrician find doctorly love!) Though the beginning scene with her family and Jack and their little hand signals was great.
Well, Lucy Saxon COMPLETELY SNAPPED THE TETHER, which bodes awesomely for the fic I'm writing.
Though they gave us absolutely nothing between Ten and Jack, grrrr, although I must say that Jack has a point re: needing to look after his team. They would be so doomed without him. SO doomed. I am really looking forward to the next season of Torchwood with its undemanding violent fun and their stories about the Himalayas and Jack's marginally alleviated manpain and, hopefully, lots more sex hurrah. And it's not a complete do-over: now the Doctor knows where to find him if he wants to drop in for a chat
*wanders away to watch something less ridiculous*
ETA: Okay, scratch that last, I am rewatching 'Captain Jack Harkness' in a fit of nostalgic fondness. And there are VOTE SAXON signs on the door of the hall where Jack and Tosh get trapped in 1941! Also, in 'The Runaway Bride', the Christmas Star is shot down by tanks, "by order of Mr Saxon". Say what you will about RTD and his plot holes, he really does know how to set up a season-long arc (see also: Bad Wolf).
