The real problem is that walking into an exam knowing less than everything is unthinkable.

It shouldn't be. I have tried and tried and tried to change this, but to no avail. I have no sense of intermediate preparation. Either I know everything - and I am prepared - or I don't know everything, in which case I could fail.

Somehow I don't think I'm going to kick a twenty-year-old cognitive block of that magnitude within the next week.

Around here we joke math scores have a U-shaped distribution. Indeed, most of mine are 95%-98% yet I've had a few scores around 50%. And almost none in between.

At least for me, it's actually true: I know everything, or I know nothing.
