food can totally be substituted for naps

I am going to start inspecting the horizon for strange figures on horseback and other more hallucinogenic signs of the apocalypse, because coffee has failed me. I had my Wednesday morning coffee-and-muffin at the Street Theatre cafe, sat down in my 9am lecture and waited hopefully for the caffeine kick. WHICH NEVER CAME. I had five straight hours of lectures from 9-2 and I spent most of it concentrating very hard on not embarrassing myself by just collapsing and then emitting snores from ankle level. UGH. I was fine from 2 onwards because it was an immunology lab, and my body appeared to realise that zombieing through an immunology lab could lead to the accidental ingestion of staph or other unpleasant consequences, so it prodded itself into wakefulness until I could flee the lab and throw Coke Zero and tempura down my throat.

The real question being, of course: what do I turn to now that a skinny flat white can no longer be depended on to get me going in the morning?

(Anyone suggesting 'sufficient sleep' will be laughed at and then kneecapped repeatedly with my copy of Kandel's Principles of Neural Science, which is one heavy mofo of a textbook.)

ALSO: I find it highly amusing (& somewhat gratifying) that I have gone from literally being the only person I knew who watched BSG, to determinedly seeking out members of fandom to squeal with (hi px!), to watching my flist slowly but surely succumb to its charms. You can all thank me by writing lots of fic, because there is a sad dearth of talent in the fandom at the moment.

ALSO ALSO: Choir tonight! I once thought that nobody could hate sopranos as much as Rachmaninoff, but no. No. Beethoven is worse.

Maybe you got decaf by accident. Or maybe you've built up a tolerance to caffine and you need to up the dosage. Of course being a diaretic I would recommend it unless you want to be rushing off to the dunny mid-lecture and getting dehydrated.

You should try amphetamines instead.

As a person who is Not Allowed to have caffeine, I suggest the following:

- cold (cold) water
- fruit/protein powder smoothies
- herbal tea (hibiscus is a nice sharp flavour)
- rock and roll

Granted, none are as caffeinated as actual coffee, but sometimes crazy factors are afoot. *shrug*

I recommend getting up a little earlier than you need to (no, hear me out!) so that you have time to acclimate to awakeness, rather than rolling out of bed and taking all your crazy sleep vibes with you. Also listening to loud, upbeat music (The Pipettes or similar) in the hopes that you will feel loud and upbeat. And eating.

AngelicawhodoesdramaatUCLA recommends making an extra effort to dress up a little bit on days when you feel tired, and I sort of see the logic (combat your "BLAUGH I feel like and therefore look like a SWAMP MONSTER" instinct with attention and prettiness. However, I don't care enough for that.

Supposedly working out is good, too.
